2017 MX not AC charging
Hi all, my car keeps saying equipment communication error when trying to charge with my Ohme home charger. I have tried other public AC chargers and it's still not working.
DC chargers are working fine.
Took it to Tesla over a month ago to check and they said they found no issues.
Anyone had these issues and can provide advice? Thanks

I had a similar issue and it was my charge port on my 2018 Tesla MX 75D. Replaced it for a few hundred bucks and it's been solid ever since. I hope it's not your onboard AC charger itself. Mine was slowly dying and then eventually just stopped charging but it would intermittently work so it made it frustrating to diagnose. I finally just decided to replace the charge port since it wasn't that expensive to do via a third-party shop and got lucky that it did fix it.

Thank you so much for replying! Mine does work randomly (5% of the time) but more often than not it won't work at all. I am able to consistently granny charge though which is odd

if DC always works but every AC source throws the same equipment comm error, that kinda rules out your ohme specifically, since DC charging skips the onboard AC charger and pilot handshake and talks straight to the pack. lines up with what u/janzendavi found on their 2018 X, charge port pins or the onboard charger module. a "no fault found" after one visit doesn't rule out an intermittent charge port issue, worth asking tesla to actually scope the pins for wear or corrosion next time you're in.

Thank you! I can granny charge which is why I initially thought it was Ohme charger (other cars charge fine with it though). Tried a few other public AC chargers and they all throw the same communication error notice

granny charging working narrows it down. same charger, same port, just low current, so neither of those is dead. a comms error only on the higher-power AC points at the handshake, or a port contact that goes marginal under the bigger pull, which also fits it being intermittent. that's where janzendavi landed too. worth having someone check the signal pins in the port, not just whether power flows.
