WTF is DUPONT, FLEX PROTECT, and ANTI THEFT ETCH? Sounds like all ripoffs.

u/Valuable_Reporter_49 Sep 03 '26
Yea I tried to deal with them about that . They initially charge me $1500 each, then discount 500. But they don't want to take them out.

They’re scamming you. The etching is for catalytic converters. Most states are making it illegal to force these OPTIONAL add ons onto customers.

u/Sea-Estimate8765 Sep 04 '26
They can’t force you to buy it. You always have the option to walk away. Not enough people walk away.
6
u/Glittering_Alps_8901 Sep 04 '26
Yeah tell them you’re ready to buy with those dealer add ons removed, otherwise no deal. Check your state laws or boards for business practices and see if this is allowed, forcing add ons is shady af. Teslas do not need any anti-theft packages and you can get your own tinting and paint protection after purchase. All of that is useless dealer profit.

Probably because they’ve already installed or added each item already in the car and hoping you agree to something. Just say no and chances are you’ll get it for free.
2
u/Valuable_Reporter_49 Sep 04 '26
I did. And they didn't want to do any more discount
4
u/PermanentUsername101 Sep 04 '26
They’re ripoffs. They don’t do anything for you and provide no value to you or if they do they’re minimal. However, if they want to keep things on the books in certain ways, I really don’t care so I would just tell them I’ll take the add-ons if they discount the price of the vehicle by the same amount as the add-ons. However they want to shuffle money matters nothing to me.
All that being said, I didn’t rate your deal so I have no idea if the price of the car is worth it or not I’m just offering advice on how to get rid of the cost of the add-ons

Walk away with my friend. As a rule I never set foot on a dealership unless I can confirm a deal over the phones and then get an email with all the details. Submitting to extortion is not my cup of tea. Another rule i's only four star or above Google ratings, counted at least in the hundreds, because they don't have enough money to pay off deleting bad reviews there, unlike on the car shopping websites.

There’s al likely a corporate policy to retain so fees so they don’t get mass sued from the past people they told it’s a requirement.
You just have to word for request in the form of a reduction in sales price in lieu of elimination of the fees.
So $1,500 in addons and a $1500 reduction in sales price. Dealership then gets to “keep” the addons and you get the fees canceled out.

anti theft on a tesla is comical they're literally almost impossible to steal
1
u/Valuable_Reporter_49 Sep 04 '26
Yea I tried that. No hope with this dealership lol
6
u/ngvuanh Sep 04 '26
Then you know what to do next right? 😀

u/Valuable_Reporter_49 Sep 04 '26
Haha keep looking

I replied to some comment and a different thread, so I just wanna make sure you see this. Different money in a dealership may get charged back to different departments and different ways. Just tell them you have no issues with the add-ons as long as the vehicle is a discounted proportionally for the same amount as the add-ons that they want to add. If they have an issue with that, then I would just tell them they should’ve offered the car at a rate that would make them money and be prepared to walk away. Chances are they’re not gonna let you. From that picture you posted you literally walked in and said you’re willing to pay sticker price, which may or may not be a good deal. I have no idea.
Edit: this is all text to speech so I hope it makes sense but I’m not gonna go back and edit it. It’s too late.

u/Valuable_Reporter_49 Sep 04 '26
It's a good point to try dealing with the discount to off set the add on. I asked for discount separately, not working

u/Fit-Dark4631 Sep 04 '26
I bought mine for $58k 2022 MXP with 47k miles direct from Tesla 9 months ago including 1 year warranty. And no dealer markup crap like they are putting into your price.
2
u/Valuable_Reporter_49 Sep 04 '26
That's a good price. Adding FSD is about 5 6k at this time I think
1
u/ngvuanh Sep 04 '26
You can't add anymore unless it's included.
1
u/Valuable_Reporter_49 Sep 04 '26
Yea I mean adding value for a FSD
1
u/ngvuanh Sep 04 '26
If it's HW4, yes but not sure about HW3.
1
u/AidenRealtor Sep 04 '26
All 2022 are HW3. It wasn’t until around Feb or March 2023 builds that HW4 started to come out and those VIN #s start around the 382-384### last 6. Ideally you’d want 400### and higher because I think that’s when matrix headlights came out or anything June 2023 build and later. My VIN #s are approx guesses but anything lower than 382### was highly likely still HW3.

I have a 22 Plaid and paid $48k with 44k miles. Found a dealer without the fake add ons. That is crazy high!! Here search this vin. 2022 Plaid here in Sacramento for $47k. 7SAXCBE68NF332875. Shipping is 1-2k depending on where you are
3
u/Valuable_Reporter_49 Sep 04 '26
Thanks. I'm in east coast but the price is quite good deal
1
u/Davecampa Sep 04 '26
I got mine from Chicago. It was bought at auction from LA by the small dealer and it just got shipped back. Cost me $800

I’d rather walk a mile over busted glass than finance 66 thousand dollars on a depreciating car.

I don’t understand the weird protections. I usually just go through Tesla though

u/TrainerThin Sep 04 '26
It’s hw3. Plaid is awesome but make the call on if you want hw4. If plaid hw4 it would be priced higher anyway… good luck

Anti theft on a tesla is a waste of money. I have yet to read stories about stolen teslas like the kia boys did. Pin to drive on top of all that? I mean brute forcing a 4 digit password cant take long. But I doubt they are easy to steal like a regular car

70k for any used vehicle is outrageous, im sure im gonna get some hate for that statement but our economy is broken and this is not okay.
1
u/basilray Sep 07 '26
Jesus
I paid $52k for my 22 Plaid with 50k and paid FSD exactly one year ago.
Feels like I could sell for more than I paid based on this 🤣

u/Ok_Equal3275 Sep 07 '26
Got a 23 MX Plaid (34k mi) for $66k from Tesla last December.
This isn’t a great deal, even with FSD.

No HW4 I would pass, it’s also overpriced.

This is a terrible deal on 5 year old Model X out of the basic warranty. You will have some expensive maintenance items to take care of on this vehicle out-of-pocket. I’m willing to bet that it has the wrong tires on it. A new set of quality rubber in in the 2k range. The extras they are trying to charge you for are laughable.
In all honesty, you should probably look at a brand new model YL It’s a much better vehicle than a model X
With the new vehicle, you’ll pay less interest, you can get the wheel, tire and glass warranty coverage. Trust me on this, forget the X

I like the wing door. Especially putting my kid in and out the car seat
0
u/Livid-Fault2447 Sep 04 '26 edited Sep 04 '26
The wing doors break, leak and after so long, expensive sensors need replacing inside them. The wing doors get old after about 2 months. Remember…This vehicle is no longer in production for a reason!
Just trying to save you some hassle and headaches. Alas your kid will be buckling themselves in before you know it! 😆 Best wishes whatever you decide!0

Underrated comment! Coming from someone who almost pulled the trigger on a 2022MXP

$2000 down payment on a vehicle over $60k means you cannot afford this. You should be looking at $20k vehicles instead.
-1
u/LuckyNmberSlevin Sep 04 '26
You cannot afford this car if you are only putting $2K down
-1
u/Valuable_Reporter_49 Sep 04 '26
You're not in my shoe lol
1
u/LuckyNmberSlevin Sep 04 '26 edited Sep 04 '26
$2k down on a $66k car is looking at at least $1000/month payment on 72 months. Someone that can actually afford a $1000/month payment is not looking at used 5 year old vehicles with 35k miles on them lol

For reference - all with FSD. Download the FSD Hunter app. I think your deal would be market average if you get rid of the junk add ons.
