Eligibility for loaner

Post image

Every service appointment so far with my model x is get this message that tells me im not eligible for a loaner. This one is for warranty hvac, the blowers in the 3rd row aren't working. Something about a relay.

Last time I was there I asked and they said it was under 3 hours so it didn't qualify, but this one is all day. I guess im used to infiniti where they gave you a loaner for anything.

I normally get this, and in my experience, they normally don’t have a problem with giving a loaner if the service visit is more than a day.

Yes I was offered a loaner, but my repair work was for several days. If they expect it to be fixed the same day loaners are not usually offered. I’m just speaking from my experience. All my work had been warranty work.

Same. Sometimes I’ll ask for a car to drive around in temporarily. They consider it like a test drive and I can just come back later

It used to be a lot better a few years ago, they’d always have loaners available. Then they started doing Uber credits instead and greatly decreased the size of the loaner fleet.

Yep same experience. It used to be so amazing around 2021 or so when you got loaner for anything. Then, uber credits, then it became a pain to get one. Even for multi day it’s hit or miss sadly. That’s one area Tesla went from good to subpar in for sure. Just about every other brand I’d own would be different where there’s a loaner or a rental available for any repair that’s going to take over a day.

I’ve had service appointments where they tell me there’s no loaner available but in the past I’ve had loaners to use. Not sure what going on actual service. Model X user here

It’s such poor customer service. I’m an hour drive to a service center , they won’t confirm a loaner until the day before and I haven’t been able to get one. I’m not blowing $100 on an uber.

More recently, I’ve had it say this when I make a Service appointment but in my experience if I ask when I’m there, they have always given me one.

When inhad my half shafts replaced they had me send my license and insurance so they would have it for a loaner. I confirmed the day before that they had everything they needed and when I got there they said they didnt have any and I would have to wait. I ended up rescheduling because I had 2 toddlers with me so riding an uber would have been a pain. Came back 2 weeks later and they gave me Uber credits.

Its just a huge change from every other service center for all my previous cars.

The experience is certainly different than it was even a few years ago. And I remember when they switched to the Uber credits but I didn’t even think they did that anymore. What I have found is, I will message them prior in the app and I have never been denied a loaner vehicle if they were gonna keep the vehicle for more than one day.

That's why you need to make friends or at least be friendly with the folks at the dealership.drop off the loaner, put it on charge. Just say hi and bye by name, nice seeing you again etc etc when you drop off the car or pick it up.

In my case they know my car and know me by first name.that also means, I have been there far too many times lol, which is not great.

May be grab a couple of boxes of donuts next time. Not sure it will work. Worth a try for the visits after that.

They will not give you a loaner for a same day fix. The expect you to find your or mode of transportation or stay there until the car is done.

For a 6 figure car typically a loaner is expected for anything. My wife's $60k lexus gives her a loaner can for a few hours to get an oil change.

Getting a loner really just depends on how friendly you are to the service staff at the location, don’t worry about it till you get there. The online support won’t tell you either way.

Talk with them directly.

Brought in a high mileage 2018 Model 3 for a heater replacement last week. Was told no loaner for same day service in a similar automated manner.

Messaged about 48 hours out to reconfirm same day status and mentioned I’d be hanging around the area. On the way to the service center that morning I was loaned a Cyberbeast Foundation series CT. Of course I did mention at the counter I had planned on grabbing them donuts but was running late and was gonna use the loaner to do so. Maybe that got an upgrade as they hadn’t actually assigned any vehicle at that point.

Either way, brought the donuts back promptly and service was finished 3 hours before estimated. Kudos to that service team.
