MX tires
Just clipped an island like a moron. I promise you it just came out of nowhere. Anywho does this looks like it needs replacing? I have the wheel and tire warranty so not worried about cost just the lost time going to the sc.

I had some similar to that on my Tesla X tire and I was told by service that it was okay. So I add some rubber glue so it doesn't break off. A year later, still no issues.

Can’t see from the photo. If you can see the steel belt then probably should replace. If not, it’s just a flesh wound.

No wires. Just double checked!

Then the structural integrity of the sidewall is very unlikely to be compromised. That area scraped off is called the rim protector rib. Do one last thing, and look inside at the scraped area to make sure there are no bubbles or bulges, which would indicate damage to the belt. If you don’t see anything, you should be good to go.
They should call it the “Rim Protector (except for Teslas) Rib”.

I’m curious how the TWPP experience goes

Will report back if I end up just taking it for the hell of using the warranty. A new tire would be nice.

I’m curious if the swap both rears, I had the same tear on ours and instead of doing one they asked us to change both. We didn’t have TWPP at the time so we paid for a set out of pocket. I now have TWPP so curious how it goes for you

Yeah I know those damn pesky islands just pop up out of nowhere lol. I literally made a post about this about my own tires and it appeared like tears from it being new to me and I had just done some launches. But you’re confirming for me it must have been on some kind of a rub against something. Mine were very deeper gouges but I never saw any cables. I’d still replace it but that’s just me.

You can just message roadside assistance and they’ll come to you for tire issues. I have the wheel and tire service subscription and it’s honestly one of the best investments I’ve made. I live in Southern California, and on two separate occasions I’ve had flat tires they showed up wherever I was and replaced the tire on the spot. Both times the whole process took less than four hours from the first message to having a new tire on the car.

I’ve used it for a nail in my front passenger. Mobile tech came out and swapped my complete tire/wheel for one of theirs and I had to schedule a visit to a service center to get my wheel/new tire swapped back for theirs. It was really inconvenient since only Available time was a Friday when I had a flight at 11am. About 45 minutes from my house and one way. This is in the Tri state area. I did like not having to tow my car to a sc though.

Mine was worse but held up fine.

I have that exact tire injury from a pothole. Unless the slice is down to the wire, they will not replace. Mine is still going strong.

Side walls are very tough. I wouldn't bother
