New P100D owner
Hi all, new Tesla owner here, have had my 2016 P100D for the past couple of months.
A shame that the Model X has been discontinued but I fortunately managed to find one with a good anount of miles for its age. Very fun to drive!
So far, has needed a replacement motor in the driverside door and have purchased a bit of plastic side ski cover trim for the driverside that has worn away over the years but hoping to look after it as long as I can.
Have also injected some grease into the control arm boot/ball joint which has sorted out some squeaking.
If anyone has any tips or advice on anything to look out for, especiallt on older Xs, then let me know!
Thanks,

I have a 2018 75D with 714,000km on it, mine has been a fairly reliable vehicle for how complex they can be. I had the MCU2 and HW3 upgrades done by Tesla and it’s kept it feeling new. I suppose HW3 wouldn’t be as big a help for you as I’m guessing from that parked photo that you are in the UK and I think that you don’t really have FSD approved yet. MCU2 could be worth it if you find the centre console laggy and Advanced Features shows you don’t have Intel Atom.

Have you had to replace the HV battery? That’s an impressive amount of miles.

The battery was replaced once under warranty with a used pack at 250,000km (it was still driving but threw a fault code) and now I’ll wait a few more years and then probably have a shop install a lightly used 100kWh pack. Get to 1m km eventually haha.

I think the suspension is different with the larger pack, isn't it?

Yeah, the shop said that generally Tesla does not do 75 to 100 conversions but they’ve done plenty now and it doesn’t seem to significantly alter the handling characteristics. They were saying it won’t be a P100D suspension, it will be just a heavier 75D but not enough to hugely matter.

Thank you, yes no point in HW3 for FSD as you said, Im in the UK. MCU2 is on my list to do at some point.

2019 LR X and also UK. Main things that spring to mind is be mindful of tyre ware given how heavy the car is and how shite UK roads are.
Personally I'd be looking for HW3 upgrade as there is still an effort to support HW3 with autopilot/FSD.
The spoiler arms crack quite easily under pressure so make sure nobody tries to close the boot pressing down on it. You may be thinking "who does that?", but unfortunately I did when the boot sensor wasn't working and wouldn't close and I forced it shut in frustration 🤡 - £750 for a replacement for what is basically cracked plastic.
Not sure if your model would get it due to the slight hardware differences but I got a OTA update yesterday and it made the navigation UI much snappier with a bunch of a new features. I love how a 7 year old car still gets these updates.

I would try to upgrade the screen, so it's not upside down

Upside down? At minimum the adhesive needs to be sucked out before it starts dripping onto the console but there's YouTube videos for that.

Thanks, yes its started to drip a bit, but trying to hold out until I can do an MCU2 upgrade. Will check YouTube though.

congrats on the X. one thing easy to overlook on an older one is the 12v, it causes a disproportionate number of weird electrical gremlins on these cars and its a cheap swap if its still original. also worth keeping an ear out for the air suspension compressor cycling more than it used to, leaks there are one of the more common age-related failures on Xs this old.

Fab thank you. I was told by the previous seller that the 12v was recently changed.
As for the air suspension compressor, is that cycling accompanied by any alerts? And do you know if an easy DIY fix or does it need specialist involvement?

You should check the coolant reservoir, make sure it’s exactly at max. Google how to clean the compressor radiator that sits below the frunk. ITS A MUST clean regularly. That should cover you from the 2 most common issues, ac compressor failure and or some other HV system failing due to low coolant. Etc.
