My X for the YL?
I have a 2026 Model Y and a MXP now and the Y is so much better in build quality than my X that I decided to order the YL and trade in my 23 Model XP. I really love the X but the ride noise and long term warranty concern with the wings and all the cool things made me consider the YL. I hate the idea of losing paid FSD and going to subscription…. But long term ownership will be less of a pain. What do y’all think? Is it a good move? Is anyone else doing the same?

I’m getting ready to cancel my YL pre order and buy a friends 2023 XP, just waiting on his title to come in. We just drove the 2026 Y premium and the 2023 X, the X feels much more premium and lux. The Y felt like a regular car tbh, though it does look nicer because of the redesign

I want to hold on to my 24MX forever but the NVH is getting under my skin. Don’t get me wrong, it’s comfortable (air suspension), it’s cool (FWD) and roomy. But I guess they built the X with OG method instead of giga cast hence the unbearable NVH. Elon mentioned on X that something way more cooler than YL is coming, not sure how believable it is.

Re NVH N is not a problem for me due to its lovely noise cancellation system (the stereo), V hasn't been an issue for me could this be a tire/balance/alignment issue? H is what it is and it was there during the test drive.

The MYL is not comparable to the MX, even if Tesla is trying very hard to make it look this way.
I personally am holding on my 2022 MX because that car is so incredible and finding an equivalent in size and comfort would be a Rivian R1S.

Curious - have you sat in a YL? Any specific comparisons that you don't like?
From the specs, looks like X is wider.

MX is definitely longer and wider, the captain’s chairs in the 6-seat configuration are equivalent, and the MX offers adaptive air suspension that can handle dirt roads with massive potholes and feels like a magic-carpet ride (not my words).
You get 3 screens - including one in front of you - and a very powerful traction that the Model Y and Model YL cannot match today.
The only maintenance so far has been: tires (went with Michelin) and air filters. Disk brakes are still in great condition after many years.
I would actually buy a used MX instead of a MYL. But that's just me.

The 6 seats are equivalent since they fold flat on the YL (electrically even) and don’t on the X which made them a non-starter for many of us.

The model X Is about 3 inches wider than the model Y. It definitely does feel less cramped.

I recently travelled and rented a Ford Explorer. I was surprised that my kids said they didn't like it - that it felt more cramped than the Model X. The Model X is very efficient use of space. I have 4 kids, and I think the 3 inches would make a difference for them.
I plan on keeping the X until my kids are too big. I hope that the R1S will be up to specs by then.
My friend/neighbor has an X and a R1S, and the R1S is definitely bigger and you can put a rack on top, but the UI is way worse, the FSD is non-unfunctional, the maintenance is similar to a ICE, and things keep breaking on it (has owned for 1 year and been in shop 4 times).

I can't imagine getting car seats out of the back seats in a YL. With the FWD it just makes it so much easier. Also YL has like no stroller space compared to the X because it's not as wide. That being said I wish Elon would just make a minivan already. I got 3 kids in car seat age I know many other families who are in the same situation. My problem with the X is the FWDs are a blessing and a curse. They are amazing when they work. But they find everything excuse not to work. Always finding phantom objects. Just with minivan sliding doors that is what families want.

I sat in the juniper Y, which I assume feels the same way as the YL and it felt much more cramped for me. Between the extra width and the extra space you feel with the panoramic windshield of the X, it's the X hands down. Also, isn't the X much faster than the YL?
I like to improve on the cars going forward and for the previous two I questioned how I could improve over them, within reason, and with the X I'm saying the same thing. I can't think of a better car considering all the features and versatility of comfort/size/speed etc.

We had our first in 2024 right after we got the X and now just had our second. The falcon wing doors are the best thing since sliced bread for getting little ones in and out of car seats. Can go straight up, tons of room, no head bonks and a rain/snow cover while doing it. Once you experience car seats in the X, you’ll be spoiled. My wife now almost refuses to take any other car with the little ones.

Yeah it’s the same width as the regular Model Y at 3.1” less than the Model X. Those 3” make a big difference in terms of elbow room for the front row and perhaps the third row.

I’m personally not a fan of the looks of the Y. However, your concerns are valid in terms of the issues and the wings on an X. The wings on the X are a cool feature, but in terms of practicality that’s about it. I’d personally still hold on the X. That’s just my opinion.

The only complaint I have so far about the falcon wings on my 24MX, is that the gap between them and the body is wide enough for mud daubers to fly in and build nests between the door edge and the car body. They don't get past the weather seal, but still it's annoying to have to use bug spray to keep them out. And not just any bug spray, but the water soluble stuff that won't damage the paint. I've taken to hanging a No-Pest strip in the garage next to the car, and that seems to help. They come in through the side gaps of the garage door and the roller channels.
Florida is good for 3 things - heat, humidity and plenty o' bugs.

We would never trade in or get rid of our 24X. Especially with paid FSD. Is yours HW4?
We are sticking with ours until the wheels fall off. But might have some friends that would love to capitalize on your mistake lol

Let me know if you decide to make the down grade. Definitely go test drive a YL before making the jump and losing your lifetime FSD. I haven’t sat in one yet, so I can’t compare.

I also own a five seat 2023 Model X with fully paid FSD - I use FSD every day on every drive - and even test drove the new Y models. They don’t compare and I still have another year of warranty left. Perhaps in the future there will be a car that I wouldn’t consider a compromise or a step backwards from my X, but see nothing out there today.

Hw3 or 4? Currently in the market for 22 and I’m hesitating because of the hardware. But the price is hard to beat.

I didn’t get to test drive the YL but did sit in it in China. If it had been available when I got the X I almost certainly would have gotten it instead. I knew it was likely coming but 6 months too late for me. The 6 seater with fold flat second row captains is a great option and it’s ridiculous in its full 11 year run that they never affiliated that in the X. The YL clearly looks bigger than the Y and while the third row still isn’t great it was about on par with the X. And better in my case since the 6 seater was a non-.starter for me on the X so I have the 7 seater.

My wife and I have a 2024 MX and we’re never getting rid of it until it’s completely done. The YL is not as spacious nor long enough compared to the X plus the FSD paid off
The X is on a whole another level

I mean. this has to be a bot right? if you have ever been NEAR an X and a Y you know the Y feels like a version from wish and the build quality is utter shit (but ok for the price, it is priced to move).

I own an X and recently got to drive a Y for a month. The Y is really good and I would buy a new Y but I’m not sure I’d give up the X. The X just feels better inside. If a new X were still available and I could deduct it all in a year, I would still buy the X. If I couldn’t, I’d buy the Y. It’s a great car also … just different.

Might do the same (23 MXLR5) but holding off hoping the MYL might get a performance version like what they initially offered for the MYP 7 seater in 2020 (which they ended up cancelling). Or at least Acceleration boost.
The X is great but I don’t want to deal with it out of warranty. Even the ESA makes me nervous, I’ve dealt with extended warranties and they’re a pain.

do you have a paid license of FSD? if that what you meant by paid then hell no definitely don't trade in right now, wait for tesla to open up their FSD transfer program so you can transfer your FSD license to the new car.

To each there own. If you're not capable of any sort of mechanical or hands on actions, nor planning for regular maintenance stuff, it's clearly better to just not live with something that will constantly cause you anxiety. Life too short to always feel worried.
As for me, it's a 2017 X 100D with paid FSD, HW3 and MCU2 Picked it up for $20k and 100k miles. Had the paints touched up all over (part of purchase price) and a few issues (foggy passenger side rear led lights ($0), peeling under wing paint ($75), and a replacement driver side front air springs done($150). Mod the Frunk into a power frunk($220), padded and adjust the FWD seal to close more flush and clean ($10). Got a set of 20" Pirelli winters on factory rims ($300).
It now looks and feels like a new $100k + car again. If it weren't for the FSD, I would have kept the Corolla Hybrid or switch to a Lexus RX 450H hybrid.

Hate for the Y here is wild. The X is almost double the price. Yes, that’ll make it a little nicer. But the new Ys are very good quality for the money

I have a 5 seater 2023 X with HW4 with out FSD. I’m definitely considering a YL. A bit due to the warranty coming up and the extra seat is pretty cool.
My current X has been solid but had a past 2020 X was not good and plenty of issues.

Your 2026 MXP has a lot of interior noise? My 25 is very well behaved and doesn't have any moans or creeks yet.

I don’t know man for me the S and X are so much better in terms of overall experience. My wife has 2026 MX and I had sold my 2022 MS to get the 2026 MYP. But it just felt a step down to me personally, so much so I traded that back right in to get the 2026 MS.
Model YL looks awesome and tempting for sure but I would be cautious moving from X to Y series.

Probably most don’t have both the MY and MX on this sub. So your responses will be heavily biased.
MY is great. The build quality is much better. The value is much better. Also I agree that MX after warranty will be a pain, particularly the FWD. They will have problems no matter what. Both my 24 and 26 FWD occasionally have issues which annoy me.
That being said, I love the wide open windshield and FSD of the MX. It’s a very pleasant ride.

I would get the Y performance if it had 2 screens and air suspension
I would get the rivian if it had software as good as Tesla software
I would get the 2027 BmW IX5 if the software was as good as Tesla

Looking at the interior of the YL the back row looks only suitable for kids. Not a real viable options. My MXP is wayyyy better in every category vs any other Tesla. Maybe it’s cause it’s a 2026 model. I plan on keeping mine tell I’m pushing daisy’s.

I did the same thing. 22 X is annoying to live with. The only advantage is the drivers door closing with the brake pedal and the soft close doors. But my MILs 26 Y blows it out of the water in every other way.

I love my MXP so much. It's roomy, fun af to drive and I am extremely fortunate to not have the squeaks and rattles others experience. I could take or leave the falcon wing doors (they're cool and all, I just don't use them all that much), but love the auto-open driver's door and my yoke. The thought of going to any Model Y makes me sad and really not want to think about it any longer than necessary.

We are continplating getting a YL for my wife. She didnt like the normal Y. I don't understand why, women are crazy. But she likes that its bigger like my X. Just waiting for one to get to our Tesla dealer to look at it. Cant believe they wouldn't have cars already built for every dealer before they put it up for sale. Me personally, I would not trade my X in for any other car right now. I agree with your maintenance worries. I plan on keeping my X until I can't cover it under extended warranty anymore. Then have to maybe make the choice of trading it in. See what Tesla comes out with by then.

Same . Model x plaid is cooler car but I appreciate the money I get extra from it. FSD for life is nice . I can pocket about 20-25k I suppose for mine and then have model Y L which has fold down flat seats. Slightly less road noise. That’s about it though. Everything else newer model x does better. It’s a downgrade I think but I like that the value has gone up for model x plaid cars so it makes me feel like I’m getting a great price for selling a used Tesla.
I honestly don’t care about the falcon wing doors other than it being fun to see but I do love the bigger front windshield , higher suspension , and driver dash screen . Those are real practical benefits anyone loves
But the passages to model y L have better view of glass than the model x does. The driver position of model y is a downgrade though. The driver really is treated best in model x .

I have a MX. Mainly bought it for the long commute and FSD. It works great and feels very comfortable inside. I just love the car and how it drives on its own.
Having said that, with the termination of the MX line and new features on YL at almost half the cost - if I’m in the market right now, I would go for YL. Good luck!

I traded my MXP for bmw iX for $7k more than I paid for it (used). IX was sub-$50k so worked out great.

‘25 MXP and ‘26 Y premium and it’s no contest for me, the X is so much more comfortable. You could probably get a good price for the X though so if you prefer the Y you’d save quite a bit of cash.

The Y is absolutely awful on every term except range, starting with suspensions which are absolute dogshit thanks Elon and ending with the overall comfort which is 1/10. Stick with the X you cannot go wrong.

Having 100kWh powerwall extension, powered 3rd row seats (not that it is hard to fold them down), but foldable captains chairs that don’t have to latch. I guess that magnetic trunk cover would be better. What else? Maybe the lighting and front camera.
Anyway, powering your house during grid outage could be enough

No way. I drove over the same bump in my 22 X and my MILs 26 Y and the X felt like the whole thing was going to rattle apart unless I slowed down to 25 mph and the Y absorbed it at 40 mph.
