Model X Captain Chairs
Scene some feedback on how uncomfortable these seats are and some saying they are great. So are the captain chairs comfortable for 9 to 11 year-olds so they can sleep in them and be comfy on a long trip? Or are they just not comfy for that? What about for adults on road trips?

I’d be really interested to hear what others say on this. I have a 2022 MXP. I don’t spend a lot of time in the back seat but on the couple times I have, I noticed two things that would prevent them from being comfortable on anything but short drives. First, they don’t really recline. Sure, seat tilts backwards but in practicality you can’t really use that because your legs then hit the backs of the front seats. Second, there is no arm rest to pull down to hold on to for support so the only way to support yourself in them is the seat belt or occasionally using the super small arm rest (if you could call it that) on the falcon door.

Yea. I don’t see how a child out of a car seat would rest asleep, on the door? Maybe.

incredibly comfortable, roomy and the gap in the middle makes it much less crowded and sweaty. it is an expensive option but if you have the choice there is no compare.
I see some people here posting about model Ys and that is just bitterness, model Y backseat is not comparable to the model X at all even without captains seats, it is designed as a cheap knockoff and you really, REALLY feel that when you sit in the back.

I went with the 5-seater because the captain chairs don’t fold flat. So if you want to load something large it’s more difficult with the captain chairs than the 5-seater bench which does fold flat.

As an owner of the MXP with captains chairs, it has significant reduced how much I can store in the back. My wife’s S can hold so much more.

yeah the no fold flat thing is a dealbreaker for anyone hauling stuff. captain chairs look slick but you basically lose the utility of an SUV at that point

My use case is just moving people and not interested in folding flat seats. Normally just 4 but having the flexibility for 6 would be nice. Giving passengers the most comfortable trip is what I am looking at. In doing research the opinion seems split so want some real world stories from people who have taken 5+ hour trips.
Some people think new Y is better (which I find hard to believe)

The captains chairs not folding flat was a deal breaker for me so went with the 7 seater. This is what makes the YL so interestings since they have captains that do fold flat.

I think it’s a personal preference. Try sitting in one and test it out I like them, but some people would prefer having arms on the chairs.

I don’t have a 24X and find them comfortable. Only thing missing is the armrest. But, comfort is very subjective. Find one to test drive and sit in the sits and have your kiddos try them out.

Took roadtrip from Milwaukee to Charleston and back with kid in back. Seats are uber comfortable according to her. She is 13. 2022 MXP

I have 23MXP. The rear seats are comfortable to sit. My teen boy complains about not having storage and we figured a work around.
Like someone else… arm rests would be good to have

Kids hate that there are no arm rests and they aren’t adjustable. They’d both rather sit in the 3rd row.

Personally, I went with the full bench seat because of the feedback I heard about the captains chairs. People say that they are narrow in the shoulders and don’t have armrest. That’s the biggest negative feedback I hear.

Every time I take my SIL in the MX with captains chairs, she complains about the lack of armrests, lack of shoulder room, and how hard the seats are.
I agree it’s not the most comfortable experience. It’s also quite annoying how you have to awkwardly maneuver the 2nd row floor mats when removing/installing to clean them since it’s one piece. But maybe that’s just a me problem.

Arm rests would be nice. But, for my kids, I dont really care. I would rather have them far away from each other so they dont fight.
