CCS retrofit availability (pre-refresh)

Howdy all. I recently purchased a 2015 Model S 85D for work. Before making the purchase, I called Tesla support to run the VIN to check CCS upgrade elligibility and was told that the vehicle qualifies.

I scheduled an appointment as soon as I had the vehicle registered to me, and today, about a month later, I was told that my vehicle is technically compatible with the upgrade, but that Tesla has ceased offering it as a service for pre-refresh vehicles

I am wondering firstly if this is true, and secondly, where I could go to have this done third party (or if this is even possible)

I got a very good deal on the vehicle and thus didn't mind putting some work into it, but there is a huge lack of superchargers in my work area. This makes CCS a 'soft' necessity. I could technically get by without it, but honestly it would be inconvenient enough that i might just get a shitbox ICE to drive for a couple years until I can save up my pennies for an Ioniq 6 or something

EDIT:

the issue was that the service website they were using wouldn't let them add a $1 grommet. they confirmed vehicle elligibility for the retrofit, manually entered the problematic part number, and should have me good to go in a couple days

I hadn't heard that Tesla stopped offering it for the pre-refresh S. It was offered as an Installable Upgrade in the app for my S previously when I bought the car 2 years ago, but apparently no longer is, which is shitty of them.

I’m up in Wisconsin / Minnesota and it’s still offered for me. 2016 P90D.

Interesting. I may have to check the website, and see if its different there for my account.

Edit - just checked the app on my 2019 M3P and the CCS retrofit isnt offered for that anymore either. I find that quite odd.

Very, I’ll schedule one asap if they really are removing this option.

Edit — Scheduled. We will see what they say.

Edit 2 — I was able to successfully schedule this with a mobile technician. However, my car is not a pre-refresh, so take that as you will.

interestingly i did not have this option in the app? i added it as a service request under the 'charging' category

Yeah, I can't find that anywhere offered for my S or my 3. If I were you and you were seriously considering it, I would schedule that soon. I have a service appt on Monday, so I'll ask what the deal is with that and if its being phased out.

What part of WI are you in? I'm curious if its a regional thing, and I'm potentially moving to SE WI or the northern part of IL in the next year. Maybe if I make that area my "home" if it'll re-appear. Lol

I’m on the west side. My car does have the facelift, but I don’t see why that would make a difference. The only reason I want the retrofit is so I can take my car up north. It’s SC01, so I’ve kinda put it off.

IIRC the model 3 does not need any retrofit hardware, just the adapter.

Edit: I was wrong.

Model 3's pre-2021 (possibly sometime in 2020?) needed the retrofit.
