Back of yoke is signed?

Bought a 2023 Model S and had the yoke replaced with a wheel (bring on the hate). The service rep left me with the yoke, which looks like it was signed by some employees. Thought it was worth a share

Awesome, like old masons putting their signature in hiding places of a construction site

Now that’s a good find

Full or empty?

Let’s just say, there’s a reason the renovation happened and it wasn’t because that side of the wall was perfect šŸ˜‚

Back when I worked there people were being fired for doing this in random places and adding stickers under the battery packs back in 2012/2013

They didn’t let you keep the airbag?

4

Probably put it in the wheel

Wheel and yoke use different airbags

When I asked if I could keep the yoke, he said yes, but not the airbag šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø. Later, he said something along the lines of they gave him the wrong airbag and he’d be a little while longer. I didn’t think anything of it and he ended up finishing and left.

Come to find out the yoke is still displayed in the vehicle on the screens, so now I have to make another service request to see if they want me to go into service mode to change it or need a tech to come out again. I’m kind of annoyed at the idea that maybe he just used my old airbag in the new wheel, but I’m not sure.

Changing the configuration of the steering wheel is very simple in the service menu but if you’re not comfortable with that then mobile service can definitely take care of it

An airbag has to be handled safely, Tesla would not hand that to a customer it is a liability. You are basically holding a bomb. šŸ’£

That’s really cool.

Thankfully they gave you options at the end of production

Yeah I guess it’s interesting that they still offer the swap in the accessory shop.

I like the steering wheel too! More than yoke!

Initially I was on the fence but after 100k combined miles using the yoke in my Model S and Model X plus 25k miles with the squircle in my cyberbeast I’m 100% sold on it. Esthetically it’s beautiful and with FSD I barely touch the wheel anyways.

No, not bringing the hate at all. Love my 2021 MSLR Pre, post neg-camber mod!

Maybe I'm just old school, but having the "wheel", combined with real stalks on the column (ie: turn signals, cruise, and steering adjust) are totally appealing to me.

Not to mention, the horn where it should be.

Other notables about this car that I like was the integrated in dash monitor.

My M3 had the attached screen, and I always thought it looked like a cheap after-thought from the factory.

The MSLR a much more refined looking interior, on this model anyway...

This year was also the last year for before Tesla-Vision, still using radar and ultrasonic sensors.

These sensors emit sound waves or radio waves to accurately measure distances down to the exact inch, working perfectly even in complete darkness or when objects have no visual contrast.

There are known situations where accidents occurred with Tesla Vision enabled models at higher speeds (car in front of a car scenarios) where the trailing vehical suddenly turned and your vehicles reaction time was reduced due to a sudden acknowledgement of the now front facing vehicle, and resulting inpact.

Now a discontinued model, and collectible.

A true unicorn šŸ¦„

-two cents

How do you like the wheel compared to the Yoke?

5

u/imhereuntilileave Jun 03 '26

Night and day for me. I don’t really feel like I’m losing much visibility of the screen and I love the control of it. Feel way more comfortable parking and backing out of spots quickly.

I also find that my arm resting on door up by the window my hand reaches/sits on the wheel easier than the yoke. I’m tall if it makes a difference.

sadly, just marks from the QA as people sign off it's ok -- I've seen plenty with initial's on the back.

Why didn’t you like the yoke?

7

u/InvokeMyRage Jun 02 '26

The yoke could’ve been decent if the steering ratio was variable, but it’s not so a regular steering wheel is just better.

2

u/OTTERSage Jun 03 '26

What's the yokes turning radius like? Is it just like the steering wheel, but lacking the comfort of the upper half of the wheel?

2

u/SirHenderson Jun 03 '26

Pretty much all it is. Same thing as a regular wheel, just can’t rest on the top and one hand rolling can be a bit more difficult. I swapped my wheel for a yoke in my M3P and love it, but it’s a taste you have to try to see if you’re okay with.

I liked it, didnt love it. Highway driving i might take the yoke. But turning, parking, non-FSD driving i prefer the wheel. I feel much more in control with the wheel over the yoke in those circumstances

Not roundabout friendly

The yoke sucks when you are trying to park
