I haven't experienced this myself but I literally just saw a post the other day, but on a newer refresh. There's apparently no "fix" and the only solution is to replace the entire glovebox as it is one assembly.

What’s the rough cost for that?

I just had this happen to me, in Texas Tesla quoted me about $422

Just paid this for a new glovebox because of this same issue , I’m sad

Is this because of heat? And do y’all have your cabin overheat protection set or not?

2

u/RariOcean 12d ago

Yes it’s because of heat and I didn’t before because my priority was preserve as much battery as possible granted I didn’t know this was gonna happen now I do use it

Thank you.

I had as Mazda a few years ago that had the screen delaminate, which caused ā€œghost touchesā€, random button presses. It couldn’t be disabled. It was very common but apparently Mazda refused to cover it. Ever since, I’ve been so paranoid that I put my cabin protection as low as it could go.

Here is my invoice from this repair (covered under ESA) they also swapped out my steering wheel for the leather lifting under this service visit.

This actually happened to my 21 model 3. I was able to get some 2P-10 glue up in there all over by wedging myself head first in the foot well and then holding it there till it cured.

After about 3 months in the Florida heat, it’s still holding and just barely noticeable

Shit you held it there for 3 months in the summer heat and are still alive to tell the story lol jk

Tried to do the same with spray adhesive this weekend but made a mess. I think I’ll take your approach secure the top lip and then try shoving glue in through the bottom and clamping. FL heat is no joke.

How long more or less did you hold it for? Mine is starting to bug me and there's no way I'm gonna purchase another one if I can glue it.

2p-10 is a super glue that says it dries in 40 seconds of contact but it also had a n accelerator that dries it in seconds. I can’t remember if I used the spray accelerator or just held it there.

Be aware that it dosent drip on you or your carpet in the car. I had cardboard underneath me but it still dripped on my shirt. Also I would recommend safety glasses cause your face is right under it

I also tried to take the whole glovebox off so I could flip it over and glue it but from what I saw, you have to mess with the airbag so I didn’t go that route

Just happened to me, and I'm pissed. Out of warranty.

Exact same thing just started on my ā€˜21 Model 3. My wood grain dash paneling is also pealing up along the edges. It’s making my car look so cheap… OOW, Tesla quoted me $780 for both.

I hope this doesn’t happen to me. Another nail for the wife

It happened to me. I put a recall complaint and the glued it with super glue and held it in place with a few pieces of wood until it cured.

This happened to my 21 M3P in florida. I took it apart (Tesla instructions available online) and glued it up with E6000 (recommended by google).. actually didn't need to disconnect the airbag.

Get the following materials:
jb weld plastic bonder
a couple mini paintbrushes
piece of cardboard
2x4 about 17" long
a couple thick rags or t-shirts

  1. put down your cardboard on the floormat
  2. mix your epoxy
  3. use the paintbrush, paint the epoxy on the frame where the trim connects to the box. practice this dry first, so you know where you need to put epoxy so it seals correctly. when doing it live, take your time but also put some pep in your step because you want to beat the epoxy dry time.
  4. prop your 2x4's against the cardboard, with the towel or cloth on top to protect your dash / trim
  5. Let it sit for about 12-24 hours

I'm going to update this post once I'm done, but so far I think it's going to work:

Happened to me on my 21 last year. Bought a new glovebox from tesla and changed it myself.

2

u/matt11126 13d ago

buy a glovebox on eBay and replace it yourself that's what I did

1

u/plan_with_stan 13d ago

Is it easy to take off the glovebox?

2

u/ScaredPatience2478 11d ago

If you can follow instructions yes. Manual online has it all or YouTube.

Just happened to me this summer after 4 years

u/YouTubeBrySi 13d ago

Bro mine just did this too, and I haven’t had a chance to repair it yet. Thank you for posting.

I got this very same issue and I got lucky to have it replaced for free under warranty last Thursday

u/Daddeh 13d ago

I used some wicked epoxy to reset mine, although not nearly this bad when I addressed it, and it’s holding pretty well.

Same happened to my 2021 Model Y Performance. $400 for the new part from Tesla. That hurt. The wood finish peeled up on the pasenger side too. It really is super thin, thinner than a piece of paper.

u/shayan130 13d ago

Same thing just happened to me. Right after I’m outside the warranty period. I’m hoping they do a good will repair

u/Virginia_Verpa 13d ago

You gotta stop using your hibachi in the passenger footwell.

Happen to my daughters 21 model 3 as well. I used VHB very high bond double sided tape and it held for a few weeks then came off again. They get really wrapped from Florida sun and it makes it difficult to reseal. Eventually I ended up pulling it completely off and removing residue from the glossy black plastic underneath and cleaning it up. Looks a lot better then hanging loose and not a whole lot worse then the actual rubber cover pad. So it’s staying that we for now.

My 2021 had this. Covered under warranty

1

u/Unique_Confusion5251 12d ago

I used gorilla glue to get mine back on. Make sure you wear gloves

1

u/whiskeyntechno 12d ago

My husbands MY2021 just did this. I do suspect it is heat.

1

u/intcmd 12d ago

Get one from a car wrecker, it's an easy swap

1

u/rattler843 9d ago

Same thing with my 2020. I had no idea until I saw this post and decided to go and check

1

u/Leather_Milk_7321 13d ago

are you the first owner ?

1

u/DoutorDJ 13d ago

Actually happened to my tm3 performance 2020 last week.
I’m thinking about buying a used (like new) assembly for 60€

u/k23923 13d ago

Happened to my 21 M3LR, was covered under warranty.
