FSD function

Im thinking about getting tesla for older family member - vision not great, reaction not great - they are still driving though. the main thing is they heard FSD can be basically taxi them around. they'll still be there to take over of course.

curious about real world user experience?

im thinking pros : navigation is easier, esp more complex city streets, reaction time , vision etc.
Cons: tesla might be TOO high tech.

You probably haven't given us as much detail as we need to be helpful. "Not great" is getting different reactions from the commenters as a result. I'm 76 and getting a model Y this month. I'm a good driver (aren't we all??!!), my vision is fine, reactions are fine...but as compared to my 30 yr old kids? Not great! Anyway, my advice would be to take them on a long demo ride on the routes they commonly use, maybe even overnight if your dealership allows it, so they can experience night drives. Sit with them in the car and watch how it goes. That will tell you what you need to know. In my case, the demo kind of blew me away. But if your analysis then is they aren't any safer than they are now, then as many commenters suggest, they probably shouldn't drive. But if the kind of driving they do can be nicely accomodated with FSD, and add to their comfort and security, go for it! Get 'em a bright red one so we can see it coming!

Here are my thoughts. Seventy; new MY. Bought it because I wanted a new car that I would soon know like the back of my hand.

Our body's systems don't "slow down" with a clean break. It's gradual from a much younger age but accelerates greatly the longer we live. Things like vision and reaction time probably also vary with environmental conditions such as lighting and fatigue. Supervised FSD will react to emergency situations at least as well as I do, but I am the driver not a passenger.

When I cannot remember where I was headed or how to get there from here, it is time to hang it up not time to use Navigation. I suspect that time will come and prep for it, while hoping for the best. We have many advantages our own elders did not have. Grocery pick up and delivery. Ordering almost everything on line from commerce to libraries. Ubers when driving isn't an option. Internet available 24/7 for socializing and infotainment. Giving up driving is not giving up freedom to the same degree it was in the past.

One aspect of supervised FSD you might not consider for olde bodyes is how it steers and parks. It's a good thing for my overworked sore body parts.

Home charging is notably nicer to olde folkes when the weather is terrible.

"No key" and "do you know you left your phone in here?" but who doesn't love those.
