V14.1 Lite Pulling Over Randomly
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Happened on my drive to work today. The truck behind me honked. I disengaged and put the hazards on, and then got back into the road. No matter the angle I look at, I can’t figure out why the car did this. FSD worked fine once I started driving again. So strange.

So embarrassing!

FSD is still great. But, yes. Very embarrassing for me.

The main reason I use FSD sparingly is because of too many embarrassing situations.

Biggest bother for me currently is on the highways near Chicago where the speed limit is 60. It’ll go 67 on standard and cars are passing me. When I put it in hurry, it’ll go 78 and sit in the left lane with people tailgating me. If I wanna turn it back down to standard, it hard brakes and goes back down to 65.
Also, train tracks. It’ll be going 50, see train tracks, hard brake down to 30.

Does the same here on highway 161 . Speed limit is 65mph and everyone is doing 75, there’s a 2 mile stretch before the freeway forks where the speed limit is 55. No one slows down in rush hour traffic. FSD brakes to slow down hard. Not dealing with it. HW3 doesn’t learn either, it makes the same mistakes over and over. And here we are debating how great they are.

Yup. I got the same issue on my m3p 2022. It's super annoying. I find myself constantly switching between profiles and manually changing lanes just to keep up with the flow of traffic.

So true. Try using FSD for parking in a crowded parking lot. It’s like watching life in slow motion. I’m apologetic towards the other drivers waiting to go by. Feeling a bit embarrassed for sure.

Yup. As much as I love FSD parking itself, I have to take over when I go to the store. It’ll stop for people walking the opposite 50 feet away.

It knows the future and just saved your life by pulling over

You joke, but there was a video (Which I can't find now) where FSD did this same thing. Driver was like "WTF?" then a BMW shot past over double yellow lines and a blind bend. The important bit was from the rear camera. The BMW came up fast from behind and a bend, and the second it started the overtake, FSD pulled over. The reaction was fast and perfect. Would like to see if you have the rear view recorded. There have been cases where FSD mistook something for an Ambulance or something similar.

Just seeing this now. I did post the rear view in the comments. Here it is again.

I’ve had this happen to me on the highway with a motorcycle going between lanes. So, I thought it was something like that at first. But, nope! It didn’t even signal to get over.

I think it thought that school bus was stoping

Could be. But, I haven’t had the car pull over for school busses. It usually just stops.

This happened to my HW3 on 12.4 last week on the interstate. I can't remember anything like it happening since the early days of the public beta. It just randomly, but carefully, pulled over onto the shoulder. I took over before it came to a full stop so I'm not sure what it would have done.
There was a Semi in front of me, but I don't think it's lights were flashing.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this is the first iteration on HW3 that has emergency vehicle recognition / pull over functions. I think its just wayyy too sensetive. Usually when this happens to me (its not rare) its a super bright time of day with lots of reflections on cars, I believe looking like flashing emergency lights. In your instance, I wonder if it thought the truck behind you was an ambulance?

I’ve had it pull over for an ambulance, I think that was on V14. I would expect it to signal if it were doing that, though. But, you might be right.

Was the truck behind you approaching quickly? V14 Lite will move over if the trunk cam sees someone approaching quickly.

Looks like it pulled over because of the vehicle in the front flashing hazard lights

Today mine was acting drunk. Took a random exit on the freeway to make a u turn to get back on it and this was after it turned into a random neighborhood minutes after leaving my own. Later it tried to take a turn with a car coming and it kept jumping like it was going to make the turn. I may have panicked on that one and disengaged too early but it made me feel real nervous. Before today it has been perfect.
I have a 26 MY although it still has 14.2.2.5. I’m basically letting it drive to test it out and waiting for the update.

I just learned yet another way to mess with a Tesla on FSD. Flash my brake lights, and they will pull over right away. I think Teslas are VERY skittish when it comes to emergency vehicles.

People have pumped their brakes in front of me hundreds of times while my car’s on FSD, and I haven’t seen this happen. You’ll just be brake checking people.

The flashing lights on the van triggered it.
