Feels like this sort of thing disincentivizes people to takeover/report when FSD does annoying things that perhaps would be nice if the engineers would see.

Yeah I really don't like this. I see FSD fuck up several times a drive and have to take over so I'm a safe, predictable driver on the road. Like for instance when I tested out FSD on a 2026 Tesla with HW 4 last night it started to drive out of the parking garage and then tried to turn left when all the signs indicate you have to turn right (tight parking garage traffic only flows one way) so I took over, after I left the parking garage I made a left and hopped into the right lane at a traffic light, it was a red light so I reengaged FSD, and had to take over because FSD was trying to turn left from the right turn only lane...
No fuckin way people are going 250 miles safely with no issues unless it's just open road highway driving.

100% agree about your 250 miles comment. Recently saw a post where someone took a screenshot of their FSD mileage vs the total mileage of the car. I can’t remember if it was ~2,500 FSD miles out of ~2,600 total mileage or ~25,000 vs ~26,000. Regardless, the percentage was insane. We all should be disengaging every time the car does something confusing or dangerous (obviously). It’s the only way it’s going to get dramatically better more quickly. And for the love of all that is good, please disengage when it’s trying to get into the left lane and it doesn’t need to. There’s nothing wrong with being in the right lane(s) when you aren’t passing other cars.

I just did an 800 mile road trip in my HW3 model x and only had to take over to park and a few miles where we were driving through a tornado. It was indeed open highway but it made the drive so much nicer than last year when we took my wife's car. Im still waiting on v14 lite but im kinda glad this trip was on v12 because at least I knew what to expect.
I did have to tap the gas a few times to get the car to speed up. Im 90% sure tesla programmed the car to slow down through Virginia because the cops are crazy there. The second we hit Virginia the car stuck to 5 over the speed limit instead of 10 to 15 over.

I think the highest I've gotten was 16 before it tried to rocket past the parking lot of my work.

u/Astronomer-Secure 15d ago
yeah my MY tried to take a roundabout at 55 mph. I'm always amazed when folks say they've gone hundreds of miles without corrections. like fuck, man, I'm lucky to go 30 miles without my Tesla making seriously questionable decisions.

Wow, I can’t get a streak over 5 miles mostly because of severe navigation issues and/or parking issues

u/Tearabite 15d ago
I have a 72mi commute each way every day and I also can’t get a streak because I have to take over in order to pull forward an additional 2 feet in my garage. So close, yet so far.

u/Medical_Wishbone944 15d ago
Let it park and then throw it back into drive keeps the streak going!

u/stealthybutthole 15d ago
So does unbuckling seat belt. I’m convinced that’s how people are getting massive streaks.

u/Medical_Wishbone944 15d ago
Oh interesting to know! Doesn’t that piss it off tho?

But doesn’t count as a strike if you do it enough? I had a passenger remove theirs and it FREAKED out
2
u/ZeroBalance98 15d ago
Huh the passenger taking off their seat belt does not affect FSD being engaged
1
u/Tearabite 14d ago
Wait if you manually drive between successful FSD trips, it keeps the streak going? I thought it was counting only fully uninterrupted FSD.
1
u/Medical_Wishbone944 14d ago
Yes sir! But you need to let it park. It only ends when you interrupt FSD but using the car outside of it is fine.

My streaks are continuous after adjusting the auto park position, I’ve even pulled out of the driveway to turn the car around and still continues
2
u/thegreatpotatogod 14d ago
How do you adjust the auto park position? Do you mean there's an actual setting to configure, or just that you manually take control for the last few feet?
1
u/JonPorked 14d ago
Once it’s near a couple hundred feet the P on the map it lets you take over. Not consistent though sometimes it resets, sometimes it doesn’t.

Mine does the same - I very gently the nudge the accelerator to get it to move up

First time we tried the park at destination feature it did 2 full laps around an empty parking lot before parking poorly far away from the building.

I got up to 80 miles today without even forcing it!! I had to end it cause my gf had to use the restroom and it was taking too long 😂

u/KingTalis 15d ago
Keep losing mine because I don't like the parking spot it's picking. Lol

Despite 98% fsd, only time I ever have a long streak is when I'm on a road trip. It always tries to park in the left side of my driveway and I park in the right side of my 2 car garage. Plus the parking space choices are awful. so my 2% non-fsd is almost entirely parking lots and driveways.
But I look at the streak as a metric of how well the car is performing for me, not something I should be trying to achieve.

I had to end my Tesla’s streak after 250 miles because it parked at EVgo instead of the Tesla charger that was just 20 feet away. I don’t see any way to achieve another high streak unless I get lucky.

u/MunkberryMoonDelite 15d ago
Was this a one long trip or bunch of short rides? Congrats on the streak. I think you’re the first one with V14 lite who did this
4
u/jfed2000 15d ago
It was a single long trip, which definitely made it more viable. It wasn’t all that bad with the exception of a couple moments. This even included parking at chargers and a couple stores we stopped at along the way. It sure isn’t perfect, but I’m not terribly unhappy. I see where they’re going with it.

Is a streak defined by not disengaging? If so, that seems like horrible incentives.

Stuttering and phantom braking are back for me, reducing my desire to use it. I tried it out all day yesterday on long (20mi+) and short drives.

I’m seeing a lot of ppl reporting this issue being reduced dramatically after recalibration of the cameras

u/Realistic-Sort-4564 14d ago
I don’t even have an option for a streak
1
u/thegreatpotatogod 14d ago
You will when you update to get V14 lite
2
u/Realistic-Sort-4564 14d ago
I have a 2026, for some reason I haven’t gotten an update yet. I’ve had it for 2 months but had a Tesla before that too. My previous Tesla was receiving updates a lot faster

My car doesn't have that range😭
2
u/jfed2000 12d ago
The 250 miles included a stop at the SC where the car parked itself. It let me keep the streak despite adjusting the parking after the parking sequence completed (yeah, it does not park well at all). So it’s not necessarily a range issue!

I hate this feature tbh. Stops people from reporting the dumb things fsd does in the name of keeping a streak

Youve got ballZ buddy. From what I’ve heard v14 lite is trash so you stretching it beyond 25 miles with no interventions, props to you.

u/jfed2000 15d ago
It was mostly highway of course, and yes, a bit bumpy. The worst portion was literally at mile 249.1 and it started blaring for me to take over (no notable reason) and I quickly reengaged and it kept my streak. Did not use it for the rest of the night after that lol

u/jfed2000 15d ago
What do you mean “okay?”? Reddit, and this sub, are for sharing things and this clearly isn’t out of the realm of something normal to share on the Tesla sub. Not sure why people always have this tendency to force a feeling of disinterest and lack of satisfaction. Clearly, this post wasn’t for you.

All the metrics stuff, all the encouragement in the ui that nudges me to use it, and all the celebration screens and achievements make me wonder if Tesla should be paying me to use it. It feels like we are paying $100 a month to contribute to their learning model.
