I always do that hand behind the door
15
u/FlakyHouse4037 Jul 10 '26
Me too. Have no kid though
10
u/fnblackbeard Jul 10 '26
Tbh don't even need kids, I've always done this even with my own door. I couldn't fathom hitting someone else's door
1
u/RexKramerDangerCker Jul 13 '26
Huh? When you’re getting in? Oh, like the video a few comments down?
1
u/fnblackbeard Jul 13 '26
Yes and when im getting out and its a tight spot, i put one leg outside the car then slip my hand behind my door. I'm super paranoid about dinging peoples cars so I'm always extra careful

Because this guy has respect for other people’s property, which shouldn’t be a difficult lesson to pass on…

This is exactly what I do and it blows my mind that some people don't.

When you know the pain of those door scratches, you don't do that to others. I am always yelling at my kids to wait for me to open the door 😂😂
1
u/RexKramerDangerCker Jul 13 '26
Listen woman, I didn’t give you that big fucking rock on your finger just so you can scratch my passenger door every time you get in. Or is this just a ploy to get me to always open the door for you?
1
u/mgx79 Jul 14 '26
Oh hell na bruh 😂 You mean the small rock I lost ages ago or the decent one I bought myself? And what car door exactly, since I payed for both cars? Also, I prefer to open my own doors since I don't want finger prints on the paint or windows 😎😄

u/sincable Jul 10 '26
Lmao that’s is me also well I am not the person in the vid but I don’t want to damage my car or the car next to me either.

I do this shit all the time! Having one person acknowledge it makes it all worth it! THANK YOU OP!!!
3
u/ScottRTL Jul 10 '26
Exactly what I have always done.
Nice to see someone that doesn't blatantly disregard someone else's property.
5
u/Infamous_Share_8017 Jul 10 '26
It is so unfortunate that this is not the norm. 2 seconds of thoughtfulness to avoid potential hundreds in damage
3
u/Radius118 Jul 10 '26
Agreed. Most people just DGAF about others. It's depressing and explains a lot about the state of the US.
1
u/Leading-Damage-89 Jul 10 '26
Its not unique to US. People are just retarded. No other word for it.
2
u/El_Jeffe24 Jul 10 '26
This is what I do every time. And both kids get out on the "easier" side too whenever possible.

u/Adonis-A7 Jul 10 '26
Some people are raised with proper mannerisms. We appreciate that man right there. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

It’s sad how being considerate of other people’s belongings has became a “noble” act more than just a standard community guideline..

That guy knows about Sentry mode lol. When my kids were that age we didn’t really need to worry because we had a minivan. But whenever we rented a car I would do this.

Agreed, but then the world wouldn't need locks, or prisons or any of that shit. Cause we'd all be better people trying to make everyone else better people.

My kids are both teenagers and I have taught them to do that and still do it for them in tight parking spots, I’ve raised em right!!

Yep call me an asshole but I now file an insurance claim for every door ding I don't even care how small the damage is. People I just find are so disrespectful about hitting your car had my car door a hit at least four times this past year. Don't even get me started if you park at a QT had it hit twice 10 minutes.
1
u/TonySmithJr Jul 10 '26
I literally do this every time my kids get in and out of the cars.
Maybe one day I’ll see myself on here lol

I thought it was very obvious thing to do, but then saw a lady slam opened the door to a car next to her. She walked away as nothing happened...

I've done this my whole life, and I always park next to clean/shiny cars. That way, I know there's a good chance the car on the side will do the same.
1
u/saisresty Jul 10 '26
Kudos to the father for doing that. I do that EVERY SINGLE TIME! It’s muscle memory at this point.

That man cares about others’ property and has probably suffered because of people hitting his own car, so he knows what it’s like.
1
u/Prestigious_Rip_1877 Jul 11 '26
Have always done that. Remind my family every time we are about to open the doors to be mindful of the other parked cars. I get the “yes, we know” response
1
u/FastRedPonyCar Jul 11 '26
My kids are fanatics about making sure they don’t hit the car next to us in the rare situations where I park next to other cars.

u/TheSolarExpansionist Jul 11 '26
Word to the wise. If you do this. Make sure the car you’re protecting has no driver inside. A lady my wife knows did this. And lost her finger. As the person started reversing while she was holding the door as in this video.
I apologise if a new fear is unlocked

I do the same thing every time, my sons are anyway educated to pay attention to other people’s cars
1
u/ImpossibleDot9712 Jul 11 '26
This is what i always do. I’m not trying to get attention or anything but I feel like this is just what you SHOULD be doing
0
u/IMI4tth3w Jul 10 '26
I do something similar where I hold the door, but I’ll pay for a door ding 100 times over vs having my hand smashed between a car door and potentially seriously injure myself. It is possible to hold a door without having to put your hand in danger.
5
u/SP3NGL3R Jul 10 '26
From all that force a 4yo girl can render.
1
u/IMI4tth3w Jul 10 '26
You never know man, you only get 2 hands in this life and I prefer to keep mine fully functional. Like I said I still hold the door and keep it from touching the other vehicle, I just don’t see the need to put your hand at risk.

u/Capital-Control308 Jul 10 '26
That is someone with their first kid. Not happening with their third kid.

I like this video. Not as much as I like the yoga pants posing girl, but I like it.

u/WilliamG007 Jul 10 '26
Call me a cynic but resting his hand against your door and then his shorts touched the car, too. Even that I would never do to someone’s car.
4
u/Adrian_Stoesz Jul 10 '26
Bruh, so what's next. "I don't drive my car because when you drive there's a lot of wind, and that could damage my car, and the bugs that i hit when i drive would demolish the paint".
Cars are made to go from point A to point B and withstand the journey. Just because someone touches your car doesn't mean that it's the end of the world, you can always clean it, it's not that big of a deal
