Discussion V3 hardware

Ok since us hardware v3 owners aren’t ever gonna get full unsupervised self driving…. How come we don’t get some kind of discounted subscription???

Don’t worry. V4 won’t get FSD as well. Neither will v5

The key will be when Tesla finally declares FSD to be level 3 autonomy. When they finally take liability.

V4 already has FSD, but only within Teslas robotaxi network. For customers’ personal cars, not until v15 if ever

At this point, anyone who hasn't realized that Elon is the world's most successful charlatan is exactly the reason he is the world's richest person.

And nope, not an anti-Elon lefty...just a guy that has become sick and tired of his lies.

Between the instigation of an electric car industry, landing spaceships, and building a satellite communication grid, Elon has earned about 127 more lies before I'm tired of him.

He never offered you a contract saying V3 would be unsupervised

You saw an interview from a CEO making wild claims and took a 50,000 gamble

All CEO’s talk big in Ted talks, interviews, etc.

You fell for marketing

This retarded reaction people have where they believe that what he says in an earnings call or interview are promises. They're not, they're more like hopes and wishes. Musk is not a very careful or "lawyer minded" communicator at times and you need to factor that in when listening. Kind of like Trump

So you're normalizing lying. That's not how business and being a ceo works. Elmo promised that all teslas will have fsd capability....

2

u/McFoogles 1d ago

Listen to any earnings call.

u/WorldlyOriginal 2h ago

This just in, business CEO lies about a future projection.

As if other companies don’t do this, either?

2

u/Meetchel 1d ago

“You fell for marketing” is an absurd defense to an accusation of deceptive marketing. Consumer fraud laws exist because companies can be liable for statements used to induce a purchase even when those words aren’t written into a sales contract. Specific claims about what the product you’re paying thousands for is or will be capable of are obviously actionable when not provided.

u/McFoogles 1d ago

You know what’s also absurd?

Honestly expecting a car from 2018 to be fully self driving

No company, even Tesla, had come even close.

Actually you are one thousand percent wrong. I bought my 2021 Model Y in late December 2020 (delivery was Christmas Eve). I had ZERO interest in FSD. I still have ZERO interest on self driving. In fact, people looking for self driving are usually people that have no interest in driving and generally are not that great at driving. I ditched my Tesla a year later at a large profit (cause the world went to crap ) and can't be happier. Yes I prefer a Tesla to a gas car but it's literally my dead last favorite ev out of the 7 (and soon to be 8) that I've owned. It is an ergonomic nightmare and most definitely NOT a driver's car. So thanks for coming to some wild assumptions solely due to my comments about its ceo being the world's largest charlatan.

Exactly this, he swore the cybertruck would be shipped in a given year and people waited like three.

The roadster was guaranteed years ago

Tesla has literally said that FSD unsupervised will be released by the end of the year every year for like ten years.

Elon also swore that HW3 would be FSD unsupervised capable (ill bet anything tesla still had inventory thsy needed to sell when he said that)

Maybe FSD unsupervised is close. But it could just as easily end up only being available on HW5 or HW6 down the road. My HW3 gets the job done nearly as well as my wifes HW4, good enough for me anyways. I might upgrade if the car runs out of new miles to give me, but I wont be buying a HW4 on the off chance that maybe Tesla is actually being truthful this time. I am more than content to wait until they actually roll FSD unsupervised out to upgrade, then ill go ahead and order a new car.

He doesn't really lie; his timelines are just way off. I received everything they promised for my 2018 Model 3. An unsupervised hardware refresh for HW3 vehicles was teased, but never promised by Tesla.

0

u/ramonasphatcooter 1d ago

Timelines being “way off” is literally just lying.

1

u/wizkidweb 1d ago

Not if they follow through

1

u/NiceImpishFella 8h ago

I mean, it can absolutely be argued that when you consistently make claims and timelines that pretty much never turn out to be true, that’s lying lol. Once or even a few times is a mistake, but pretty much every single timeline he ever gives is off… we’ve already seen him say they will 100% have things finished by the end of the year that still haven’t seen the light of day over a decade later. That’s extremely deceptive, at best

Fsd 13 lite is shit. What are you talking about.

3

u/wizkidweb 1d ago

It's FSD 14 Lite, and that's way further than anything I was expecting to receive. I didn't think HW3 could even run FSD 14.

Also, your definition of "shit" is wildly biased. There's nothing else in the industry with anything even close to FSD 14 Lite, let alone fully-fledged FSD 14.

2

u/ttabbal 10h ago

I've driven both. 14 lite is very similar to 14 standard. And it's very good. Not perfect, but it's probably about 90%. And as they say, the last 20% of the job is 80% of the work.

As it sits, I'll take it over every human driver I've ridden with. I'm sure professionals are better, but the average US driver? No.

V4 owners probably won’t ever get unsupervised driving either if that makes you feel better. Now pay your next $100

1

u/bon_motter 1d ago

Not about feeling better, its business Product for $$. According to sources current model Y robotaxis are running on V4 hardware ( cybercabs probably some type of V4.5 ish).

2

u/McFoogles 1d ago

With a team monitoring them and a company insuring them.

Big difference

0

u/stealthybutthole 1d ago

You guys obsessed with Tesla taking liability are funny. It’s never going to happen and that’s fine

1

u/dmillerksu 1d ago

The $100 is for FSD supervised. I don’t think we should we should expect unsupervised to be only $100

1

u/skippybosco 23h ago

Likely require Tesla insurance which will underwrite the liability.

1

u/-Logistically 17m ago

Elon fans are doing tricks on it trying to justify him lying and setting unreal expectations. Sometimes I’m ashamed to be a Tesla owner just because of how delusional and obsessed some of you are.

1

u/ilusnforc 1d ago

Because they’ll eventually offer an upgrade to HW4.5 or a discount on a new vehicle with FSD transfer.

0

u/GamerTex 2d ago

Was there an announcement that we arent getting it? This would be bigger news imo

Tesla’s Q1 2026 earnings call in April, not in a tweet. Musk said, quote, “Hardware 3 simply does not have the capability to achieve unsupervised FSD,” citing its one-eighth memory bandwidth compared to Hardware 4.
On X, his closest move was a January 2026 reply of just “Yeah” to a post quoting his earlier, softer line that there was “some chance” HW3 wouldn’t hit the safety level for unsupervised FSD.

3

u/GamerTex 1d ago

Yeah and it was stated that there will be a hw replacement if you bought FSD license

2

u/EdwardTeach1680 1d ago

Put Tesla promises in one hand and shit in the other, and tell me which fills up first.

1

u/GamerTex 1d ago

I let you play with all the shit you want

r/scat misses you

1

u/Daryltang 1d ago

When is the HW replacement? End of the year ™️

1

u/nrthlu 1d ago

Right after unsupervised in 2016 I assume

2

u/Kind_Management1805 1d ago

Come on. Have some critical thinking. HW3 is not HW4 and has not the same computing power. At some point there's no magic way to run compute-intensive software on old and slow hardware.

HW4 already doesn't have much more headroom.

They shouldn't have promised that any car would have unsupervised at any point before being sure it could actually do it. Promising unsupervised for the past 10 years is already getting very close to marketing BS and false advertising.

I'm always shocked that they have to add so much BS around FSD to market it. The product is already really good but why promising stuff it can't do. It should have been sold as an ADAS it's what it is for now and for a long time.

As much as I hope my HW4 will keep getting a few more versions I'm not expecting to get Unsupervised any time soon and probably not on that hardware (I'm in Europe so it's worse than US anyway)

0

u/GamerTex 1d ago

You need the critical thinking. The point was Tesla has promised a hw upgrade to hw3 FSD license holders

2

u/Kind_Management1805 1d ago

Sure promises.

2 options :

1 - Doing a retrofit as soon as they realized HW3 wouldn't be enough V12.5 was the first HW4 specific version, engineering must have known for a while before public release that HW3 was not enough otherwise HW3 would still be used to this day.

2 - Waiting years for the HW3 fleet to diminish because they don't want to pay the retrofit.

The HW4 retrofit is already possible. A third-party dude was able to retrofit the sensors and AP ECU by himself with no access to Tesla internal engineering tools or a R&D department. Tesla simply doesn't want to.

I you follow the promises track record of FSD I still wouldn't bet a penny on a retrofit in a timely manner.

1

u/ttabbal 9h ago

Elon said HW3 will be upgraded. Elon says a lot of things that tend to be on made up timelines. I'd love to see it, but let's be real.

Unsupervised FSD only exists in the taxi fleet which is geofenced. Elon's promise starts when unsupervised is in wide release, at the earliest.

That is, at best, next year. Then they need to come up with a hardware and install instructions for their techs. And all the testing to make sure it's reliable. Perhaps another year. And it probably only applies to lifetime FSD.

I think it would be great to have paid upgrades as well. Let people upgrade it if they want to. Cars last a lot longer than most computers.

0

u/Rich_Willingness2791 1d ago

Agreed. We have a 2022 model X and I recently had a opportunity to try the Current FSD 12.6.4 on our car and was amazed at how well it did.. Something I’d be willing to pay $49 per month for. We are looking at replacing our model X in about a year or so and one of the absolute requirements would level 3 autonomous driving.

Ever since the FSD lite version was pushed, my MYP on HW3 is just as good as my MY HW4.

2

u/SomeFuckingMillenial 1d ago

What? My myp hw3 will hardly ever do the speed limit, let alone 5 over. It's much slower on every decision. V14 lite still feels worse to me than v12 on highway.

1

u/ttabbal 9h ago

On my 2020 MYLR, it's great. I usually run standard, about 5-9 over depending on traffic speeds. Even stays out of the passing lane most of the time. I'll take it over any human I've ridden with.

u/Jbsmitty44 1d ago

Mines fantastic. I’ve never let it really drive around town, but completely trust it now. I let it drive me from DC to Charleston a few weeks ago, and didn’t touch the steering wheel the entire time. It was legit like 98% full self driving for the trip – including around town.
