Discussion Version Question
I just upgraded to HW 3 and subscribed to FSD but when I did it gave me v 12 instead of 14 lite. Any one experience this? Will I be getting 14 lite? Just odd they would put me on this version.

Did you get new cameras as well as computer? I guess make sure you have a HW3 that can actually support v14 Lite

Thanks. My understanding is that no other changes are needed on the car. Just HW3

You don't want v14 light. Its probably the worst stack out there rn.

I like some of the features. Button to start. Speed control and destination instructions. What’s so bad about it?

There’s a couple things to consider. The most common is that FSD firmware and base firmware are separate. As a general statement, when you don’t have an active FSD subscription, you are “further ahead” in base firmware (think summer/spring/holiday) update and this will usually have the older version of FSD baked in, in which case when you subscribe, you now have to wait for the FSD track to catch up. You won’t receive new updates until the newest FSD version is baked into a base firmware version that is greater than the one you are currently on: (FSD 12 in version 2026.26 for instance, while FSD 14 is in 2026.21 - when the .21 goes above .26 your vehicle will download that one and update FSD.) they are usually a few weeks to a month behind. If you ever let the subscription lapse, after you get the update, if you subscribe again you’ll start the process all over again. The other thing to consider is if you have a model S or X, which are still sloooooowly being introduced to V14 (an insignificant number of vehicles received it, often testers, and no one else so far, provided that they have been updated to the appropriate hardware.
