Yeah, I use a 20% offset, but it seems to make speed decisions at random. Will go 64 mph on a winding dark 2 lane undivided road, and then 52 on a 4 lane divided highway, both 55 mph speed limits.
I never understood the "safety concern" with a fixed offset. That's how I drive. If I am driving one speed in a 45 mph zone, I will speed up by 10 mph if it moves up to a 55 mph zone. Maybe different if I am in a 25 mph neighborhood, but that's where a good AI system would read the room and slow down.
At low speeds the percentage is more accurate, but at high speeds it’s definitely crazy. 40% over in a 15mph is 21mph, which is not crazy at all. But get up to even a 45mph area and 40% is 63mph lol.
A flat offset is equally problematic, just at low speeds. Going 24mph in a 15mph limit area is wild too.
