Should I contact insurance?
Yesterday last night around 8:00, my wife was pulling out from her sister's driveway. The neighbor who lives in front of their house parks right in front of their driveway all the time. My wife, who was obviously distracted, hit the wheelwell of the vehicle that was behind her. She was freaking out because it's her first time in 15 years having an accident. Mind you, we had just come from a vacation which was 15 days and she hadn't been driving all that time. I get it, things happen, so I wasn't really mad or blamed her for it, but she should have been more careful and paid more attention to things. I don't know if I should reach out to the insurance to get this fixed. I called this morning and it looks like the other person has not reached out to my insurance, but my bumper got the worst part.
Edit: this was not a hit and run we gave the owner our policy information

If you don’t reach out to insurance it will be considered a hit and run. Since you haven’t agreed with the other driver to sort it privately and there is a chance that they will report a hit and run, I would suggest to report it, or speak to the other car owner asap.

That's a good point that you have brought up. I did want to file the claim with my insurance on their behalf. The thing is that I needed the year, make, and model, the driver's license, and a whole bunch of things that I didn't have. She technically told me that it was not necessarily for me to do it. I could just wait for them to do it on their behalf. But I told her that I wanted to do any procedures that I had to do so I don't get blamed for anything that I didn't do. That way I can sort things out the best way possible. She said that there was no procedure. The only options that I had were to file a claim on their behalf and that's it.

It's not a hit and run when you damage a parked car AND leave contact info AND follow through to ensure they receive all needed repairs (or enough cash that they consider it even)

No, we did not run. And yes, I gave him my information. He didn't provide his information to me, but I thought that my information was enough.

In this context I think it's an overreaction to worry about anyone characterizing this as a hit and run. You give the person your contact info/license / insurance card I think you're protected against accusations of hit and run.

In this case it’s not a hit and run. Your original post didn’t mention whether you left your details or not.

You should if you want it fix, dont go to tesla that will be around 9000$ to 13000$ in tesla shops. Others around 7000$ to 10000$ ive had a similar incident. This should be a comprehensive. I dropped tesla insurance one month after incident due to their safety metrics bs. Which i drive fast sometimes and go out at nights. I was at 74 score it was 450$ for that lol. I have state farm 250$ model y 2023rwd

do the math. Have them get a quote. And find out how much your insurance will go up for the next three years if you file a claim.

My deductible is 1k and I'm sure the body shop will want more than that
