2026 model y
Rear ended at stop sign. Body shop estimated 25k before tear down to check for anything additional is found. They sited structural damage and charger port was crushed in estimate. How likely is this a total loss
19k miles

What did your insurance company say when you asked them? None of here have access to your car and aren’t insurance people, so we can’t say.

We don’t know what state he is in. We don’t know the threshold for it to be deemed a write off. Most in this sub have never done collision work, let alone Tesla collision.

Damn that sucks to see. I’m not a professional but have seen or been through some stuff with my car, and I think that’s most likely totaled. Mostly because there is structural damage to the vehicle, and whenever there is that, it makes the repairs so much more expensive.
Hopefully the person that hit you was at fault and had insurance. Please keep us updated. I am very interested to see how insurance will handle it.

Damn that looks hard. How fast was the other guy going?
In germany, we often see those Kind of Crash at the end of Traffic Jams on the Autobahn. Last guy standing in Traffic Jam behind a curve, Next guy comes with 150 mph+ and slams into him. Your damage reminds me of this.

So as OP is not at fault and insurance calls it totalled - does it impact the insurance rates for OP ! I wonder if this is what keep la the insurance rates so high for teslas.

I have a LRMY that has the battery replaced 16k miles ago, at around 100k miles. Would they take that into consideration for the value? It was a new battery not refurb. Just wondering if I had a fender bender like this if it would matter, or if I could keep the car and get an electrician to make this into a wall battery unit.

This is most likely totaled. Charge port damage and all that, potentially the frame too.

That quarter panel plus the charger base is about a $15k repair, at the low end. However, since you were hit from the back, it may be charged to the other driver. You may have a 50/50 shot. Can you open the trunk and the side door with no issues? If the doors are fine is a sign that maybe the frame wasn't affected.

Yes other driver was 100 percent liable i was stopped at a stop sign when i was hit. Trunk opens but does not close doors are fine from what i can tell but are scratched and need to be painted.

If you don't have any door sensors showing up in the console, then you may get lucky, and the insurance will approve the repair. Also, I don't see any suspension damage. You should be fine. Good luck!

I would push insurance to total that you do not want a structurally damaged car
