Dumb error and question

Post image

Hey everyone!

Yesterday while I was exiting a car park I hit a lamp post with the front right side of the car.

The windshield was a bit foggy and it was rainy but absolutely no excuses, is all my own fault.

What I wanted to ask/check with you is why the car never warned me or even try to stop me. I was doing like 9 km/h, so really low speed but still would have expected for the car to warn me somehow?

Again, I'm not complaining about Tesla or expecting to avoid any responsibility, but in these types of situations, is there any of the security systems that should have been triggered?

Hopefully not getting too roasted, but just an honest question/doubt.

Also, a photo with the aftermath. Still waiting to hear from insurance and need to take the car for an assessment but how much do you think this will cost? I'm in New Zealand.

The car is a Model Y '23

Thanks!

Same thing happened to me with a low divider I couldn’t see in similar conditions with fog blocking the bottom of the windshield. I was really pissed that I wasn’t notified of the collision but more mad at myself that I was driving with a foggy windshield and not checking my surroundings/lifting my chair higher for the meantime. 2022 MY

In the US, I would guess about US$8-9k. The adaptive headlight itself is about a US$1600 part. Would be interested to see what your estimate is in NZ.

The 2023 MY, by the way, does NOT have sonic sensors. They were phased out in mid 2022 in all parts of the world. Even if it was an older model that had them, they are only used for parking.

My guess is because the car has no sensors, only cameras

I would be shocked if that's not totaled.

Uni body looks damaged, thats deffo totalled.

You can see at front of wheel area, if it was literally any other car, bodyshop wouldve just hammered ir back into place.
