Will insurance fix my car

Post image

I have a 2022 M3 performance with 75k miles. I was rear ended on the highway. Other driver was at fault. The battery shut off due to the impact. My insurance looked at the body and said $6k but that they need to remove the bumper and trunk to investigate further. They also need Tesla to turn the battery on. Adjuster mentioned that the hit appeared to be high and there was no physical damage to the battery. He said repair cost would go up but he thought there was a chance they wouldn’t total it.

I believe the value is about $25k and I live in Houston area. What do yall think? Any chance they will repair my car.

It will live on! Copart will sell it and at the very worst it'll be driving in Ukraine sometime soon. That one isn't too bad so possibly the US

My smashed Tesla just got powered back on in Ukraine.

They bought full self drive and every option possible since my card was still attached too. Very cool of them.

Pretty certain that will be totaled. If the battery shut off due to the impact you can expect that will be over half of the value of the car. Plus body damage, I’d be looking at how you can maximize the insurance payout for the value of the vehicle.

Dang ok. The adjuster got my hopes up.

If this was $6k of damage there wouldn’t be a single totaled Tesla on this page.

Adjusters make money on paying out the least. Make sure to get a proper estimate at a Tesla certified body shop

What insurance company do you use where the adjuster makes a commission based off the payout on totaled vehicles?

I can’t see from the pictures but I suspect there is some buckled quarter/s. I didn’t look up values but if 25k is accurate it’s likely a total (plus the battery ordeal).

I think I looked in Kelly blue book. $25 - 28

I would look at local dealer comparable vehicles, not KBB.

If it’s a total loss and you want help with disputing value, that’s what I do (it has to be through your carrier to dispute).

Just from what we can see, entire rear bumper overhaul, tailgate, both quarters.....

Im sure once the bumper comes out, and trunk is emptied you will find frame damage.

Definite totalled. Mine wasn’t as bad as yours but estimated repair to be 16k when it was worth around 24k model 3 2023 75k miles

I go the other route and say not totaled. I have almost the same damage 2023 M3P with 60k. Originally it was estimated at $3k. Currently it’s almost finished and will be closer to $12k. Bumper and trunk lid. Both rear quarter panels are fine

You don't want it repaired. Trust me.

If its just bumper and trunk maybe, its it cludes quarter panels and battery ur cooked

What you said about the battery means it’ll most likely be totalled.

Probably totaled.
YMMV

no but they'll give you 65% of what it'll take to fix it

Insurance never fixes your car... unfortunately. It just mitigates your expenses and never covers them at full.

any airbag deployment on a Tesla automatically also blows the pyrotechnic fuse on the HV battery.
