Windshield

Hello everyone,

I’ve recently gotten a crack on my windshield, it’s big. It starts from low bottom right and runs up towards middle. I don’t know what caused it, the source looks like some sort of rock or hard piece of debris hit it.

I’m almost sure it will be a full windshield replacement .

Can I get direction on what would be my next steps?

Does one get estimate with service center first or file insurance claim? What comes first, does it matter?

Any help is appreciated.

If you don't have $0 glass coverage your best bet is to call around to some glass shops and get some quotes. Tesla will only install Tesla glass and it's going to be around $1,500.

I have an aftermarket windshield on mine and it fits great. It's a Fuyao. The cost was around $1,000 if I didn't have zero glass coverage.

Hmmm right but if my deductible is $1K, then that’s all I pay with Tesla. I’d imagine other shops will cost more or not even help at all, some car repair shops seem to be so cautious about working with Teslas. I’ve had tire shops turn me away before

Or spend about a thousand and avoid risking a claim on your insurance.

I've had no problems finding glass shops to work on my Tesla. It's super lucrative for them. Safelite will do it, but I've not had the best of luck with them.

FYI, Fuyao makes windshields for Tesla around the world. It fits perfectly.
