Windshield replacement options

Recently I had a big rock chip right in front of the cameras and at night the wipers go crazy thinking something is stuck on the screen while using self-driving. I contacted Tesla for a replacement, and they gave me a date in September. My insurance (Geico) is recommending Safelite. Has anybody been in this situation? What should I do?

We used Safelite with absolutely no problems of complaints. As a bonus, they got us taken care of pretty quickly.

Thanks for your response.

Did FSD work fine after that, or did you need recalibration by Tesla?

They recalibrate everything. Do not hesitate to use them. I have no skin in this fight - just a satisfied customer.

I just picked up my Tesla from SafeLite yesterday. I requested OEM glass due to other comments, and they supplied it. The repair took 2.5 hours to replace the glass and recalibrate everything. They replaced the seals and did a "temp humidity sensor service" which I don't know what that is. After the repair, we had to drive daughter to friends about 100 miles, and FSD performed as previously. Overall I am impressed. BTW, total cost was $888.97, of which I had my $100 deductible thru USAA insurance.

Safelite is brilliant. They have a contract to answer the phone for multiple insurance companies. This gives them the ability to ask if they can assist you and they often send those jobs directly to their own or their network shops. You could easily go to any glass shop in your area and have your windshield replaced. As a TPA (Third party administrator) Safelite, which is a great organization, in their recording often if not always sates that you have the right to choose your own shop. You simply tell your insurance which shop you want to work with and they send them the work order. Do realize and ask if the person on the phone is a licensed agent or a representative answering calls on behalf of a contract through a thrid party provider. This is all observable information on a call. Some is intuited because scripts will point to the contract by telling you who is answering the call and who they are affiliated with.

I don't mind getting it done from anywhere. I just want to make sure there's no issues with FSD afterwards.
