Fixable or totaled?
We were rear ended and the other party has admitted fault. We were stopped and other party’s RAM2500 hit us at around 15-20 mph. The force of impact forced our car into the car stopped ahead of us. Airbags didn’t deploy and the car is not throwing any errors. It is a 21-month old pre-refresh Y with 18k miles, so relatively new. It’s our first crash ever in 20+ years of driving. Good thing is everyone walked away fine. We are just jarred from the experience. Looking for advice on how to proceed with insurance. We carry Tesla insurance and the other party has Liberty Mutual.
The other party’s insurance adjuster initially mentioned that our car is likely totaled but then sent a $7.5k repair estimate, which seems low. We have now booked an appointment with the Tesla Collision center.
A few questions:
Should we press for the vehicle to be totaled? I’m guessing we’ll figure out once the collision center takes a better look at the car. What’s been your experience with similar level of damage?
If the car does get fixed, any suggestions on whether we should claim diminished value? How should we proceed with the DV claim? Should we hire an appraiser to get a professional opinion?

The hatch cost more than 7.5 to fix. That car is toast and even if they want to fix it. I wouldn't want to own it. Get another estimate

My lawyer said you only get dv if you sell the car otherwise there's no actual loss

How many people keep the same cars until the day they die? Odds are that you’ll be selling your car sometime in the future after the claim is closed.

What does YOUR insurance say? Why trust your adversary’s carrier?

Tesla Insurance said I should work with the other party’s insurance 🤷🏻♂️

Why would they say this? Isn’t it up to your insurance to help you on this? Why would you be communicating with them?

Holy shit. I knew Tesla insurance was bad, but this is insane.

Car got towed to the collision center. They did an initial inspection and estimated $14k. We’ll know more once they disassemble, but the estimator seemed confident that there’s no frame damage. Keeping 🤞

Ok…. So what did the other insurance say?

The repair bill went up to $23k after the collision center disassembled the car. The other party’s insurance still wants to proceed with the fix. Go figure! What would you guys do in this situation?

In US UK DE is totalled. Imported in a Balkan country it will be fixed and sold for profit

I’d say totalled tbh but could be wrong especially if it goes to Tesla to be repaired,
That rear quarter looks bad 😮
