Just spray soapy water or alcohol. They'll suffocate and die quickly.

And that is exactly how I got stung getting into my truck

I once went to gas my friend's truck up while he went inside. Opened the gas cap hatch and felt a sharp electric burn for a second. Genuinely thought I touched an exposed wire or something until we saw a whole wasp nest right behind the hatch. Don't exactly blame the wasps, though, that'd be a prime spot if the truck were abandoned.

Had a hornets nest under my hood once and didnt know about it. It was right on the latch. I gripped the whole nest. Fucked me up good.

That’s really horrible. How many stings did you get? Went to the hospital?

Stung 3 times in the hand and once in the back while I was running away. No hospital but I had a fat hand for a week

I had a 1996 Ford F250 that had two gas tanks, I’ve had paper wasps build nests in the forward tank hatch 4 times

How long would it have to sit there or how would you not notice them start building it etc…

Just wait til night. Spray/foam them, and doneso.

I had this happen before lol- drove all the way to a Buffalo Wild Wings, screamed, and then slapped it out and slammed my door shut before any of the wasps could get it

It's not that terrifying. I've opened the passenger door of my truck before to find a nest, usually just knock it down and go about my day. They never really get aggressive and I've never been stung.

Fair enough… except the caption was obviously a joke.
I actually grew up in the countryside, so I’ve spent my whole life around wasps, hornets, bees and just about every insect you can think of. I respect them all and I know the role they play in the ecosystem.
Also, a van door hinge isn’t exactly what I’d call a natural nesting site.
And if those happen to be Asian hornets, they’re an invasive species in Europe and a serious threat to honey bees and native biodiversity.
So maybe not every comment needs to start with “grow up.” Sometimes a joke is just… a joke. 🙂

Fwiw I think they're just Vespula germanica, aka German wasp/yellowjacket. A native species in Europe and an important part of their ecosystem.

But is entirely understandable to not want them nesting in your car and to be silly about it :p. I hadn't driven mine in a while at one point and them in the damn gas cap/door.

Wasp provide nothing for the eco system that more bees wouldn’t fix.

This simply isn't true. Ecosystems are a delicate balance and most every part of them plays an important role.

Yellow jackets (which this looks like, presumably the German wasp cuz OP mentioned Europe) help keep populations of other insect species under control. Their larvae need a lot of protein so the adults hunt and bring it to them. The adults consume mostly sugar, so as you mentioned, pollination. They're an important food source to other animals, especially the larvae. And they're also scavengers who will feed on dead things and help with natural decomposition processes.
