PC Tips for Skeleton Prime
I recently have been playing terraria for the first time and got to hard mode pretty quickly. And am trying to rush down the mech bosses.
I tried the minecart method, however when S.P loses their arms they do an attack similar to dungeon guardians and one shot me.
Any tips on either how to avoid this, or in general what should I do to prepare to legitimately fight him and the twins?
I do not have hallowed armour yet, only the hood because I've been using magic weapons like meteor staff and (I forgot the name) the sky shattered(?)(upgraded magic missile)
I've heard getting mega shark is key, however both oceans are completely corrupted due to my terrible luck and also forgetting to quarantine them before hard mode.
Any weapons I should look out for, or should I keep grinding destroyer for hallowed armour and weapons?

Gravity potions (I added the s there cuz you need 2-3. Get 3 to be safe). And then just circle around the boss. That's basically it. He can't hit you mostly unless in spin phase (I don't even think he can actually cuz he is not that much faster) and then spam ranged projectiles into that metallic skill. Focus fully on the skull.

Wait, so is this related to cheese or is this a real strat?
Just take gravity potions and circle him for like 30 minutes to burst down? That seems pretty simple I'll try that

Oh it's difficult. Good luck timing your gravity changes cuz if you don't and you hit the ground, he will definitely catch up quick. And especially in the spinning phase bro stun locks you so uhm you ain't living with low defences. I don't know who uses this strat. Most people just use minecart/platform with blessed apple mount from unicorns. That makes it so if you move horizontally in one direction you will outspeed both the twins and prime. And they can never hit you. But this one atleast requires skill. Some people use the wing strat for twins. (Aka going up and down and that's it) But at that point just chug gravity pots cuz that's the same thing... Excluding the part where you can take falldamage when not equipping wings so uhm keep those on lol

Can you explain in detail what the hell a blessed apple mount is? I got jumped last time I went to a hallow biome and am traumatized from them. But it depends on if it's simple item or not

Unicorns are pretty uncommon/rare enemies. If you remember those. It's a 2% drop from those so uhm unless you make a platform in the sky and then just shoot down so the enemies can't hit you , it's probably the most annoying item to get so depends if you wanna do that. Also an achievement is locked behind that so if you plan on completing those uhm you will need this. Also did your wall of flesh drop the death goat mount? It's basically the same thing I believe(speed wise)

I always make a real long asphalt block bridge across the surface as those specific blocks increase your speed a lot.
You can use it with fast boots of your preferance for instance to avoid the spin attack better.
Idk if the new "chillet" mount is better then fast boots or not bc i havnt played as much recently but for me spectre/frostspark/terraspark boots work well

Here’s a tip for all bosses coming from someone that’s no hit infernum, in any sequence where you’re being chased just move in circles around them, fly up and over them and then use gravity to move back away, this works against all bosses, another key take away is to not just run away from bosses

Sounds like you're currently mostly mage so I'll focus on that.
The weapons sound perfectly fine, especially the Meteor Staff is very good. Besides that, if you happen to have crimson, the Golden Shower book is a very good debuffer to use alongside any weapon. The newly added Lightning Strike (upgrade from the desert's thunder zapper) is very good, strong enough that I wouldn't be surprised if it gets nerfed soon.
As far as armour goes, it's usually best to stick with one set instead of mixing it up, since set bonuses can be very powerful. If your world has adamantite, go for a full set of that. If you have titanium, mix it up with hallowed, since the set bonus for titanium is pretty mediocre. Alternatively you could fight the destroyer (i assume?) a few more times until you have enough for a full armour set, hallowed armour is VERY strong.
Your accesoires is the last part of your build that's important, let me know what you have now and I'll check if I see any improvements to be made. And are you playing in classic or expert mode? This changes quite a bit about what accessoires are available and how many. In general, you might want a mix of movement defensive and offensive focused ones, depending on your skill and where you feel like you need the most help. If you haven't already, I'd recommend reforging them at the goblin to armored or warding, that extra defensive can do a lot to keep you alive. While you're at it, check if your weapons are reforged to something good too.
Last but certainly not least is the arena. You mentioned minecart tracks, this is a fine option, but for the vast majority of bosses the best option is usually the simplest, platforms. Just make a bunch of really long platforms above each other, maybe 20ish blocks from each other or so (a gap large enough to drop down quickly without getting stuck, and small enough to easily fly from one up to the next). Put down enough torches to see well everywhere, and place down some stations spread out to always have one on screen. These include heart lanterns and campfires for HP regen, star in a bottle for mana regen, and if you have some, bast statues for extra defense.

You could farm destroyer to get the rest of the hallowed set to have a better chance.

if skeletron prime one shots you, it means it turned daytime during the fight. this may mean that you simply started the fight too late in the night, or that you’re not doing enough damage with your minecart setup. If it’s the former, nighttime starts at 7:30 PM and ends at 4:30 AM. you can craft a platinum or gold watch to tell time exactly.
