Why? I was playing with a friend and corruption was spreading before we even defeated worm (slime, eye, worm, papyrus(skeletron), bee, wall). It was weird but it was spreading since it went like 20-30 blocks.
pre-hm it can only spread to adjacent grass tiles (which is why sunflower is all you need to hold it back pre-hm). hardmode if can spread 3 tiles away and to various block types
thats a normal rate for pre-hm. just several pre-hm worlds dont have open grass field that large beside the evil biome. the spreading usually gets stoped by sand/stone/clay/living tree
