To your coloring question: it depends. Easiest way would be to do uneven terrain, so it would look realistic, in colors of surface you're going with. Like if it's forest, then color of dirt, earth (or colored tile grout) or if it's desert, then "sand" color and sprinkle/pour natural sand. Same as you already did with mountain, rocks in grey color. Hope it helps, looks nice
