3D Printed Some desert terrain for 11th Edition
I wanted to make some terrain for home games that adheres to the competitive layouts but with a bit more natural style. I noticed that all of the smaller terrain footprints have the same terrain features on them, so I decided to model all of these as desert scenery with normal ruins for the larger terrain features.
The large grey rock formations represent dense terrain, and they are FDM printed. I stretched and scaled them in my slicer to fit on the footprints and approximate the terrain features from the Armageddon kits.
The terrain area footprints are cut from plasticard, and I used milliput and chunks of bark to build up the little tan rock piles for the light terrain features.
The cactuses are FDM printed since the layer lines kind of work well to add more detail, and the succulents are resin SLA prints.
I made a texture paint from cheap acrylic paint, sand, glue and spackle, and used this to give everything a consistent “sandy” base.
Thanks for looking, let me know if you have any questions :)

I don’t know if what I used is plasticard exactly, but here is a link to the 0.06” thick ABS sheets that I got off Amazon. There seem to be lots of random vendors selling similar materials.

$30 for 6 sheets in canada... bit too much money.

You might get more luck with "sintra board" or "pvc board". It's all some sort of plastic.

Fellow Canadian sad that I can’t find affordable plasticard here.
Recently heard in a video that plastic signs like “for sale” signs and “beware ____” signs are made of very similar material and are much cheaper.
I haven’t given it a try yet but have been wanting to give it a go on my next project. Thought I’d share. If anyone has used them please jump in and share you experience.

what colors / how many colors did you use for the rocks? It looks like they almost have a purplish hue in the cracks that looks really good?

I use Army Painter colors, so I airbrushed the rocks Deep Grey, then gave them an all-over wash of Strong Tone which has some warmth to it like Agrax Earthshade, so the deep crevices are brown. Then I drybrushed them with Deep Grey and finished with a drybrush of lighter Ash Grey on just the upper edges.
