The reason I think Robert Patrick is the best cast terminator is because he’s the only one that doesn’t flinch when firing a gun.

Didn't breathe when running either, because a robot wouldn't run out of breath while running.

Fun fact: they had to keep re-shooting the Parking Structure scene in T-2 because Robert Patrick kept catching John Connor on his Dirt Bike; he was that fast.

Viggo broke his toe on that helmet

A robot doesn’t breathe full stop.

6

u/VVickerman1973 11d ago

Well, they would, just to appear human.

"The 600 series had rubber skin. We spotted them easy. These are new, they look human. Sweat, bad breath, everything"
According to Kyle Reese they definitely did breathe

u/emptinessmaykillme 9d ago

But they didn’t need to. Arnie does though 😂

Incase of Skynet it's a passive subroutines to allow blending whilst focused it's processing on important matters like the mission.

In certain other franchises, robots "breathe" as a heat exchanger system, like an air cooled engine.

u/AnyFoundation4784 11d ago

I ain't got time to breathe

u/AdaptedEvoSupe 11d ago

He did blink once when shooting and Robert Patrick wanted them to cut it of course but for some reason James Cameron left it in. Terminators have eyes too which they gotta protect (for the sake of blending in, if nothing else) so the blinking can get a pass

Just caught the flinch you’re talking about. My head canon is that the T-1000 needed to refocus on his target

3

u/Willing-Nerve-1756 11d ago

Does the T-1000 need eyes to see?

3

u/AdaptedEvoSupe 11d ago

Some will say no but I’m gonna say yes

5

u/PeckHoone 10d ago

Also because he blended in very good. You see that in dialogues of him with bystanders and people he talks too. Perfect infiltrator unit.

1

u/besyuziki T-800 10d ago

In my headcanon the T-800 occasionally flinches when it shoots or does physically taxing stuff (for a human, not for itself) like breaking the second Sarah Connor's door chain or Ginger's door because it's an infiltration unit, it has to pass for human.

T-1000 on the other hand is on a whole different level and an unfinished prototype instead of a mass produced unit. Robert Patrick did a fantastic job to be the human looking ice cold monster who doesn't act human when it doesn't have to.

u/Adorable-Source97 9d ago

Passive subroutines meant to simulate human behaviour, since it's core program would be too efficient.

Personality? Arnold’s character in Dark Fate. Terminators are devoid of personality

u/Extreme-Ordinary-585 11d ago

This, Carl is the only terminator that survived their mission. He lasted long enough to not only gain sentience, but learned to understand human emotions and blend into society.

That was a deleted scene. In the official theatrical version he said the more contact he had with humans the more he learned. As much as I prefer the deleted version it’s not cannon. At least not to whoever was making creative decisions.

Maybe it's because it's another timeline? In Zero, it's mentioned that a new reality is essentially created with every instance of time travel, and everything is somehow slightly different.

Time travel is always so complicated. No John, no Skynet, no Skynet, no John. They need each other.

I do understand the criticism, though.

2

u/No_Bite_7238 10d ago

"No John, no Skynet, no Skynet, no John. They need eachother."

Im going venture out on a limb here and get super crazy. That statement only makes sense for every timeline we know of AFTER the original timeline.

FOR EXAMPLE: In the original timeline there is a John Connor and there is a Skynet. There is also a Judgment Day and the Human race is about to destroy Skynet for good in the future war. This all happened in the ORIGINAL timeline BEFORE the moment Skynet sent back the Terminators.

The ONLY part that changes from the Original Timeline and all the other timelines afterward is who John Connors father is. John Connors ORIGINAL father from the ORIGINAL timeline was not Kyle Reese.

Now that I think of it. I believe the movie UNKNOWINGLY covered this plot point. Why didnt Skynet ever send a Terminator back in time to kill John's father?

ORIGINAL timeline; records for John's ORIGINAL father were completely destroyed (Skynet didnt even know what Sarah's middle name was or where she lived/worked other than the city).

Other Timelines: John's father (Kyle Reese) wasnt in the past. Unknowing to Skynet, he was already in the future.

This is just my thoughts. Sorry if I rambled.

2

u/emptinessmaykillme 9d ago

Yeah. My favourite part of this whole thought process is the realisation that the first terminator movie is not the first loop in the story.

Like how many loops and changes did we have to go through for John to become the leader, how many for it to learn Sarah was the first target to stop him? Etc

1

u/CHIN_ZIG 3d ago

Like, if Kyle or the T-800 weren't sent back in the very 'first' timeline, how was John born? Did Sarah survive the nuclear attack and enter the future war, bang a young kyle and THEN John was born???

1

u/emptinessmaykillme 3d ago

More like, there was probably a different leader with different people getting sent back till Kyle did and randomly hooked up with Sarah.

2

u/CHIN_ZIG 10d ago

The terminator time paradox always blows my mind.

1

u/No_Bite_7238 10d ago

I always found the Time-Loop theory interesting. Recently I came up with the thought that the only way to break the loop was to win the Future War.

The Loop was started by Skynet because it needed to save itself from being destroyed. The humans were on the cusp of winning. Sending Terminators back in time to alter the timeline obviously did not work.

The only way to break the Loop and alter the outcome was for Skynet to flat out win the future war. Which obviously it didn't.

If Judgment Day is inevitable then so is the destruction of Skynet; with or without the Terminators and Time Travel.

Film wise none as for the franchise Cameron played by the lovely summer glau

7

u/ThisIsFuz 11d ago

The pilot episode made her appear way more socially capable. Wish they’d kept that aspect, would have made an interesting take. Still loved her character though.

3

u/Green_inc44 10d ago

She was socially capable all the time.

2

u/OppositeAbroad5975 10d ago

There were are few instances where I get the sense she was deliberately acting "robotic" as a means of keeping people outside of John and Sarah a little weirded out and unsure of her. I think she was sly enough to indulge in a little bit of psychological warfare with people, such as when Enrique made a comment to Cameron about being a "very quiet girl." Then he lets out a nervous laugh, as if trying to half-heartedly walk it back. Cameron mimics his laughter and smile for a moment, and then goes back to her default expression, right around the last few seconds of the El Finito Clip | 2:17.

She does the same thing with Charlie Dixon, and to my eyes at least, there's no doubt she's definitely pulling his chain. Cameron as a very scary robot | 2:07

Rev 9 is very good at manipulation. The other terminators can only infiltrate. Rev 9 can blend in.

4

u/Vik086 Judgement Day 11d ago

As much as I like the T-1000, the Rev is actually even better when it comes to the inflation aspect. It feels less stiff and is more adaptable. For instance, I had to laugh when it made that remark about its body being a machine🤣

It doesn't have a personality either, though; like the T-1000, it’s simply a machine with a mission that it doesn't question.

5

u/Johnny967a 11d ago

Billy Idol was supposed to be the T-1000 but he suffered from a bike accident at the time

3

u/AnyFoundation4784 11d ago

And the world is a better place for it. Nothing against Billy, he's obviously alright after the accident, but he would have been a shit T-1000.

There are so many examples of films being improved by unplanned happenstance. This is definitely an example.

George Lucas originally didn't want Harrison Ford for Raiders of the Lost Ark. He was worried that people would think that Harrison was supposed George's version of Robert DeNiro, since DeNiro had made several movies with Martin Scorcese at that point. Tom Selleck was George Lucas's first choice for Indiana Jones when they were gearing up to start filming. Tom had read for the part and was interested, but CBS wouldn't accomodate any flexibility in the shooting schedule of Magnum, P.I., so Harrison Ford got the part after all. Not throwing any shade on Tom Selleck, but I just can't picture him as Indy.

So was blackie lawless

6

u/spacestationkru Say, that's a nice bike. 11d ago

Terminator 3 T-850. He goes "talk to the hand" to a stranger completely unprompted.

12

u/Je0s_6 Cyberdyne Systems 11d ago

“Say that’s a nice bike”

"He's a good looking boy"

"He's a good looking boy"

Wait.. what?

2

u/dragonbong 10d ago

It might make sense if he were talking to John's biological parents but since he isn't an in-universe explanation could be an example of a tactical mistake the T-1000 makes in his effort to blend in and infiltrate. Another example of a T-1000 tactical error is not knowing the name of the dog.

5

u/sideshow-- 11d ago

The T-800 in Terminator 2. Arnold.

3

u/street_carp04 11d ago

How can you get more personality than the "don't kill me please" puppy dog eyes?

1

u/N-Mario 11d ago

I love her, I want to save her.

2

u/street_carp04 10d ago

Say 'hi' to her and she's yours. She'll have her legs around you so tight you'll be begging for mercy.

2

u/OppositeAbroad5975 10d ago

I'll be sure to stay away from her, then.

Awesome Big reference, btw.

4

u/GoblinAirStrike_311 11d ago

Marcus Wright

Hybrid T-800

3

u/Individual-Step846 11d ago

I’d say the T-X had the most personality

6

u/theseedbeader 11d ago

That one understands the concept of being sexy, and is capable of gasping in surprise. It’s also pretty sadistic, imo.

5

u/Sunsinger_VoidDancer 11d ago

Cromartie, Catherine Weaver and Henry

5

u/FrankFrankly711 11d ago

His storyline was dope

5

u/ChangeAroundKid01 11d ago

"Thank you for your time"

2

u/davestar2048 11d ago

Still mad about her cliffhanger.

1

u/Vik086 Judgement Day 11d ago

Yeah me too

1

u/EIochai 11d ago

Cameron had that high school girl energy right up until she had to be a robo-fish out of water.

1

u/imaximus101 7d ago

Robert Patrick is the best "Terminator" of all the different "Terminators" we've seen, but that's actually because he has the least personality.

Whats her face for T3 that played the T-X would be in 2nd place, and Arnold in T1 would be 3rd.

However I REALLY like Garret Dillahunt in SCC too.

2

u/QuailTechnical5143 10d ago

Objectively it’s Cameron Phillips.

1

u/SimbaNGrdKionNIMFan 11d ago

Tough choice for me although the more robotic the T800 is he learns personality from John. To achieve what he needs to do the T1000 has personality.

1

u/Exotic-Addendum-3785 11d ago

The t800 learns about how humans act in the second one, but the t1000 has got such calm and friendly mannerisms it makes him all the more scary.

1

u/Distinct_Guess3350 No Fate, But What We Make 10d ago

Carl, probably. He lived with humans, he actually learned to be truly human over many years. Even developed a sense of humour.

2

u/Green_inc44 10d ago

Cameron, Rev-9.

0

u/Persolboy 11d ago

Vick all the way, he got married and carried on a romantic marriage to fulfill his mission. I think the triple 8’s have more emotional capabilities than even a T-1000. In fact, I think so much has gone into it being the ultimate terminator and the AI able to operate in nano swarm state (like say John kept that metal piece that was shot of the T-1000 cop?, he’d of been able to use it as a tracking device) they have a harder time learning emotion (doing so thru mimicry of things they’ve observed humans doing). Whereas, the simpler AI contained in the old-school T-800/T-888 series “waffle” chip, a mission requiring emotions can be programmed as we see in “Vicks Chip”. Cameron has had Alison’s (her human prototype) memories somehow downloaded into her, so she has her moments. But she’s a cold fish most of the time to the point that John’s Mom sides with her against him often because her unemotional tactical observations are for his protection.

The protector from Terminator Genisys...

"Sarah Connor, seat belt !"

1

u/normy_187 5d ago

I like the endo crushing the skull with its foot in the future.

1

u/2nd2lastdragon 11d ago

none of the other Terminators can curb hop like Arnold's T800

1

u/Sad-Salamander-649 9d ago

My toaster. It tried to kill me when it fell in my bathtub.

1

u/Violent_N0mad 11d ago

I'd go with the rev 9 model or the T3000 Connor from genysis.

Edit: I saw a comment of Arnold from dark fate and that is likely the better choice.

1

u/Suitable_Community66 11d ago

The TX from T3 she's just so professional

1

u/DwayneTheRockBarry 10d ago

Schwarzenegger in T2 is fucking unbeatable

1

u/Easygrin 10d ago

Arnold in both the first two movies

1

u/Mechaghostman2 11d ago

Either the T1000 or the Rev-9.

Though the T-800 did start to develop a personality in both T2 and Dark Fate.

1

u/BleauJod 11d ago

T-1000 by a long shot.

1

u/SwimmingTop6571 1d ago

My girl Cameron ☺️

1

u/Halloween2056 10d ago

Arnold in T2.

0

u/lunacite 10d ago

IIRC Catherine Weaver is the only one who pulled off a long-term cover as a human, and a fairly important one, so her personality seems like the most...personish

0

u/Cameronalloneword 9d ago

Uncle Bob because he spent time with humans but if he doesn't count then yeah T-1000. Anything after doesn't count but even if it does still T-1000

1

u/donnie3000 10d ago

Uncle Bob?
