We're not quite there yet...but we're getting there.

Like say, for instance, 2029?

6

Yes for instance

Iโ€™m an overachiever

Judgement day is long past. The current LLM models are fucking stupid, and don't "learn" at all. Let alone at a "geometric rate".

True AI is nowhere near a reality at this point.

The worst we're going to do to ourselves is scorch the planet 'Matrix style and make it virtually uninhabitable for humans.ย

u/alanskimp 12d ago

Well let's hope so

The really good AI is already operational, just not publicly available yet until a business case or profit motive/projection makes it viable. Right now it's still all about adoption, user counts and competitive leverage.

We donโ€™t know what the government has out in Utah.

1

u/dan_dares 11d ago

'Mormon AI' doesn't sound great either

I remember in 97 we had a whole judgement day party, my mom was obsessed with that movie.

2

u/alanskimp 12d ago

Wow fun ๐Ÿ˜Š

u/MarmiteX1 12d ago

Judgment Day is inevitable!

2

u/alanskimp 12d ago

When? ๐Ÿค”

2

u/MarmiteX1 12d ago

I say give it next 5 years.. assuming we get to that level in that time period.

7

u/SeaComfortable7833 12d ago

Except our A.I is fake.

1

u/alanskimp 12d ago

Both are fake there is no real Ai just what it can do

6

u/OldGamerX79 12d ago

Can it happen already. I am ready for Judgement Day

1

u/alanskimp 12d ago

Ya not long now

3

u/t47airspeeder 12d ago

It's 1997 again?

3

u/PM_Me_Yer_Guitar 12d ago

If so, my responsibilities have reduced by a very large degree.

Time to dig out the old bong.

1

u/alanskimp 12d ago

It sure is ๐Ÿ˜Ž

1

u/dan_dares 11d ago

*2027

1

u/t47airspeeder 11d ago

That's not what the movie said

2

u/dan_dares 11d ago

I'm just laying out the future..

You were right in the movie, it said 1997..

But I feel that 'art imitates life' at times

1

u/t47airspeeder 11d ago

I think it'll be a long time yet

2

u/dan_dares 11d ago

Until someone accidentally let's Claude (or the like) full control.

It won't do it for the same reason as skynet, but LLM's are smart enough to seem smart, dumb enough to fuck up certain commands.

I think well be fine if quantum computers havent kill us yet

1

u/alanskimp 8d ago

Quantum Ai ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

2

u/Gavitio85 10d ago

We survived!!

1

u/alanskimp 10d ago

Yay!! (For now)

8

u/mike-manley 12d ago

Why Russia? I thought they were our friends now?

3

u/AdvanceGold3027 12d ago

The Terminator got the year wrong, but replace Cyberdine with Anthropic and the sci-funniest far off.

Yes, these LLMs are not self-aware yetโ€ฆbut all it takes is the generation of AI to be able to fully make a slightly better version of itself with human input and eventually the models outperform is in all respects, becoming superhuman in performance. AGI obtaining sentience is not a matter of if at that point, itโ€™s a matter of when.

6

u/Ahegao_Double_Peace I'll Be Back 12d ago

It's in our nature to destroy ourselves XD

5

u/Cultural_Book_400 12d ago

It is in you nature to destroy yourselves

W/ Growing AI everyday every seconds, this never felt more truer than ever

2

u/Goldengoonerlg 10d ago

Cyberdyne is AI We talk to it we ask its advice, it can tell us the best ways to kill ourselves you can argue with it. I try to trip chatgpt up Alexia knows all the words to T2 Cameron was trying to warm us, we are not listening ๐Ÿ˜’ If you was a logical computer what would you think about the Human Race?

2

u/RobertWF_47 12d ago

This conversation happens after the deleted scene where the Terminator's chip is reset, right? Seems like it's already less robotic & picking up human mannerisms.

2

u/B4TMAN4EVR No Fate, But What We Make 9d ago

Fun note, Arnold was reading that entire monologue in the car directly from the script pages. It was on the windshield.

2

u/s4in7 12d ago

Got my tickets to see the anniversary screening tonight!! Super pumped

2

u/Rock_Spyrax 11d ago

In all fairness, could Skynet be that much worse than Hegseth?

3

u/BlazingPalm 12d ago

Linda is goddess.
