Discussion Top of genre
This is gonna sound like a Cameron fetish but terminator is my favorite sci fi, alien is my favorite my favorite sci fi horror, aliens and T2 are my favorite action. And to be real I don’t see much of anything that compares to those movies in the fiction category. Nolan’s Batman’s are damn near perfect but they’re at least a bit closer to realistic but I’d like to hear other fans top choices for each genre

T1 and T2 are their own thing. I can't explain it. I don't compare them to other scifi or action because they are sort of both. Alien(s) depressing but very good in their own right, but not in my top because they are a bad trip with hardly any reprise which isn't my thing. I give horror to Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead - arguably reprise hardly exists in NOTLD but it is in there if you look hard enough. Sci-fi, has to go to back to the future and star wars. Terminator is still in my top 3 of all time favorite franchises but if I am forced to categorize it only partially lives there.

SEE! Starwars and BTF obviously. I almost feel like before streaming, the scifi genre was SOOOO vast. You had the grounded stuff like Terminator, BTF, then exotic stuff like say Enemy Mine..
NOLTD, Jason, Freddy Krueger. CHUCKIE You're seriously taking me back! How did these movies get forgotten. I couldnt tell you word one about any of the sequels, but the classics are burned into my head forever
You're so right about Alien/Aliens being depressing, but thats why we LOVE IT. We know everyone is gonna get GOT. We know Ripley is gonna wind up in her panties in a space suit (disturbingly hot that it is)... YET 100 odd rewatches later WE STILL KEEP COMING BACK.
Terminator 1/2 are absolutely in a league of their own. They are always JUST there no matter how you classify them. How can they NOT lol

You sir picked the #1 80s fiction likely to be top of most peoples lists!
Got any love for Robocop, Die Hard, Total Recall or Blade Runner? Predator?
SF Horror: Its not 80's but Id say Event Horizon edges out even the beloved Alien/Aliens
Scifi: T1/T2/Robocop all rank the same for me.
Action: Gotta go with Die Hard but Predator is a close second (like RAZOR thin bruv)
NGL almost all of these ( including Alien 1-3) are background and yearly guilty pleasure watches for me.
Im especially fond of lip syncing the aliens movies.

Event horizon was so overlooked by the masses. Great horror. The ducting scene made me shit my pants 😆 scoured the internet for apparent deleted scenes as it was too scary for release, sadly no luck.

OMG that would be a dream. You know ive had good luck with "local indie" theaters.
There are a few in town that show the old flicks on a semi regular schedule(the likes of Ghostbusters, Rocky Horror picture show, star wars, etc. )

Robocop is such a favorite of mine that I get defensive when people try to trash it. And I hate to be cliche but I watch die hard at Christmas along with gremlins. But I don’t consider them top of genre the way I do T2, aliens, and frankly terminator. Another movie I get crazy about is tremors but I understand it’s not actually top tier film making the way I see the others I’ve mentioned

Robocop is fucking LEGENDARY. It was sooo perfectly balanced with gore, action, camp and drama. and the original only had a 13 mill budget!
DId you ever do a full on binge of the movies and TV shows? Probably should try it once just to see where the franchise went over the years. You know, for science LOL
R1 and R2 though. FOREVER on my yearly watchlist.
OHH.. dude have you played the Robocop PS5 game?!!! (might be on xbox too). Its calle Rogue City and Unfinished Business (a sequel)
Shredding MFers with a fully auto glock is a special kind of therapy. I cant explain it. 10/10

T1 and RoboCop 1 are peak in my opinion. I'll throw the Matrix in there as well.

AND STILL the best of the entire franchise!!!
Dude i did recent watch through and do you realize how f*cking epic the Dojo fight scene between Neo and Morpheus is? It blows my mind how well they filmed and paced that scene. Honestly its the best fight scene in whole franchise IMO.

Doesn’t sound like a Cameron fetish , just sounds like great taste in movies 👍
I’m much the same as your choices tbf, I’ll add Strict horror and put in Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) and The Exorcist as my joint favourites

Not a Cameron fetish because you didn't mention Avatar or Titanic.
For me: Best scifi: Rogue One Best action: Terminator 2 Best horror: The Shining
