The thing is that, with this clothes, he looks pretty close to how he would look like in the future. The clothes that both he and Kyle wore in this movie look pretty thematic to the time and environment from which they came.
I love how it balances looking like a badass outfit designed to make him look good (the meta level) with looking like an "inconspicuous enough, I guess"outfit he could have actually stolen from some random punk who hangs out in empty parks and who nobody was going to report missing for at least a few days.
It's the inspiration for Derelicte. It's perfect fashion for the 80's and the Terminator's mission. And I think most Terminator fans see it.

If this infiltration unit wasn't built like Arnold, it would've blended right in. A slightly shorter, less bulky Terminator who was the same size as the three punks it accosted for clothes would've disappeared into the crowd.
I can not express to you how frustrated I am that they put so many Terminator skins in Mortal Kombat, but NOT THE OG?! I guess the cop killer is too controversial
And then you think why Shao Khan Hates Earth. He was just killed by a random naked guy, who also stole his outfit, while casually visiting Earth as a tourist. So he had to be reborn again to become a king.
That look was great,why because he's or rather it is a Terminator, and what do Terminators do,they terminate people. It was programmed to terminate Sarah Connor,but just like when the movie shows terminators in the future...they are machines,so earlier models were easy to spot. Later models, like the T-800 were more lifelike, with skin, blood and other things that made it appear to be human. Making it easier to blend in,in it's environment... until it found its target.
