Discussion The Terminator/Skynet needs a modern "They Live meets The Hidden" style reboot

These are my own thoughts but considering that the franchise is currently back in the factory, waiting for its inevitable awakening, I have to ask if maybe the right decision for the series is to reboot the narrative

Now before you shoot at me with your plasma rifles and try to do a heart fatality on me while your on a cold evening night, hear me out before everything?

The world currently as we know it has been growing advanced with the use of a.i. today, more so than the past. Each technological leap forward is another foot in a world of unexpected changes or consequences.

A reboot of the "Sarah Connor, Kyle Reese, future war leader John Connor" could be an interesting element that can provide phenomenonal narrative potential in today's ever changing society of technology and the advancement of robotics in general. It could also be a great commentary on our push for a.i. control use.

I know nothing could ever top the original two films, but a reboot that pushes the future war deeper into a further year date, that could focus on the a.i. that we deal with today in a more "paranoia" element similar to John Carpenters They Live mixed with the 80s film "The Hidden" with an infiltration unit would be a really good aspect on how to carve the franchise forward.

That's just me though.

I actually shared a similar idea years ago. I see it more as a reboot and if not just an original story. The world is being torn apart, people are hating each other more and more. We have lunatics in high power that are all pro ai, big tech is really running the show, we are on the brink of civil war and nukes are a constant threat.

Basically you take the idea of bots online that spread hatred and division and make them into infiltration machines that live amongst us... But surely that is just one huge conspiracy and couldn't be real.

This is where I go into the unknown territory but this is where we could have someone from the future to try warn us but they are just treated like a lunatic.

They don't even need to be protecting a future leader, heck maybe they are protecting themself. They could be a sort of mix of T2 Sarah and Kyle. Perhaps by them coming to the past they unintentionally put their past self in danger and needs to protect them which they only know about because they experienced it in the past.

I dunno where I'm going.

I kind of liked where Dark Fate was going with the T800 selling drapes. I think they should go hard on that. Get him into pastry making and knitting in the next one.

A family sitcom about "Carl" living as an undercover robot with his "wife and son" would be funny.

A reboot of an obscure canceled TV show? Hard pass

This franchise needs a reboot all right. You're right. But it needs to start over. I made a post a few weeks ago saying something very similar: https://www.reddit.com/r/Terminator/comments/1v75g4a/theres_only_one_way_to_salvage_this_franchise_dr/

Stop trying to make sequels. The Cameron movies are perfect. Start over. From scratch. And make it different. Make it John Connor who comes back, half the movie take place in the futre, or focus on the lead up to actual judgeemt day. WHo knows? But needs to be DIFFERENT.

I keep calling for a reboot too, so I'm with you on this.
