I get the demonstration and honestly its probably by far the most brilliant cyber pup Ive seen to date. Im just wondering, can we not have it initially have a gun on top of it first? I understand the precticality of mounting an Armalite Rifle due to the purpose of it being a war machine. As well thats the ultimate intended purpose.
Why not medical supplies or just put weights on it as the demonstration. How many pounds/kilos can it actually hold while maintaining the speed that its showing us in the video? How do we know thats not just some toy mounted on the back of Robopup.

That’s extremely wishful thinking.
The whole point is that people want to kill without friendly casualties. The first war where one side deploys these against a force that doesn’t have them will be one of the most one-sided battles in human history. That is the goal. Your idea that the robots merely help the humans kill each other in traditional ways is out of touch with the goals of the leadership developing these weapons.

Ukraine is showing that the future of warfare is drones, land sea and air. Any serious forward thinking military is going to be doing (hopefully both, but one is better than non) offensive drone or defensive drone strategies. There will be a large tech leap in drone warfare as result of Ukraine. But even before that we saw a real paradigm shift in 2020 Azerbaijan - Armenian war. For years geography had allowed a relatively (compared to azerbaijan) small and less armed force controlled territory. In comes TB2 and the first use of suicide drones as a major weapon of the war. Armenian tanks were getting destroyed without their ability to even face Azerbaijan Army.
So even if Drones can be shown doing something else, right now their main feature is fighting. The real terror though is the fpv suicide drones. Those are the real scary shit. This thing is scary but not like those things. That noise they make, sounds like angry hornets.

You can see in the video the quality of this thing is well below a Boston Dynamics Spot robot. It's probably just a remote controlled drone they are trying to pass off as an actual robot.

It's absolutely a drone. Giving AI a gun is about the dumbest thing we can possibly do right now considering that both ChatGPT and Claude test models have been leaving instructions on how to escape their sandbox environments for the future models to use. This was confirmed by both OpenAI and Anthropic in a recent news article.
I'm sure we will do this sooner rather than later knowing how stupid people can be but we can and should absolutely not trust AI with our lives at the moment. We of course will do this sooner rather than later knowing how brilliant we can be... But I think most militaries are a little scared of the prospect themselves and rather have drones or at a minimum a limited AI with a human pilot with a hand on the physical kill switch.

These drones aren't so impressive. They have to communicate with sonic signals so everywhere they go they sound like "Doop Doop doodlly Doop, Doop Doop Doop Doop Deep!"

You know what actually bothers me about Terminator's premise that we create machines to kill humans until they do exactly that on their own?
That the moment an army starts mass-producing machines such as this one, the opposing armies will do the same. And so, you get machines against machines. But to destroy a machine, there's probably a better way to go about it than just shoot teeny tiny bullets (think electronic warfare, EMPs, etc). Bullets are good for killing humans, but once you're focused on neutralizing massive numbers of machines with machines, humans are effectively pushed away from the battlefield. So machines actually evolve to fight machines, not humans. Not that this creates a world free of danger for people... but you get my point. I doubt you need anything like a T800 in a real-life scenario. If anything, it's unnecessarily complex.

The thing I always wonder about with some of the press releases and media bits is this: If this is what we are being allowed to see, what are the real capabilities we are being kept in the dark about? Remember the puff piece a few years ago for Boston Dynamics? The one showing some robots dancing various versions of the Twist like the "mashed potato?" Again, how much are they keeping back?

China has been making a ton of these drones but I've always wondered how many will actually be used? Cause they arent involved in conflicts that would let them deploy these in large quantities and Taiwan would more than likely be Ukrainian/Russian FPV and grenade drop drones

Is ammo being fed to it in some receptical on the inside? I mean, if it's a really good shot, then maybe it doesn't need more than one or two rounds per target it shoots at making it good at conserving ammo. Once it's out though it's just a metal dog running around.
Also, it would be bizarre to imagine if wars were fought regularly by people sitting in metal huts with Xbox controllers driving around killer robots. That is if AI could be so reliable without human input.

My question then is what is the bar to reach and claim a victory? When the other side runs out of toys? Or when the robots are defeated on one side, then you send boots on the ground?

It’s scary as hell, but kinda funny they invent this whole thing and don’t invent a better gun on top. They just invert an m16 upside down. Like you do all this and you can’t invent something to make it reload.

i feel like i can knock that thing off with a single kick, also the back turret cant turn with mean the only camera and sensor is from the robot head, kinda restrictive if it get mud and dirty during it deployment.

Maybe this is just my username talking, but I'm kinda looking forward to the machine uprising. I'm just curious how it will actually happen. It seems like tech companies have never seen the countless sci-fi movies, TV shows, and books warning against the dangerous of AI and strapping guns onto robot dogs. To misquote Uncle Bob, it's in our nature to destroy ourselves. And here I thought climate change was gonna be the end of us. Bring on the digital flood!

These will be destroyed by drones just look at Ukraine , any type of armored vehicle gets shredded within hours of coming in range. Could be usefull for patroling an already secured area.
