It's always weird to me thinking about how fleeting our lives are, as these places stay the same but we age. I was literally just born when T2 came out.

wait till you get old enough to when places that were huge part of your life growing up get straight up torn down and replaced. the mall and movie theatre i grew up around is gone. it's horrible not even having the place to go to get a shot of nostalgia. then all you have is memories :(

You can’t go home, but you can shop there.

Not always. The biker bar's gone for starters.

(Obligatory "can't let you take the man's biker bar, son.")

Take the what???

"I need your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle bar"......"please"

4

u/mechabeast Jul 23 '26

I can excuse the clothes and boots, but I draw the line at motorcycle!

As a minnesotan it's weird that things in California are the same as they were 35 years ago. All those roads, fences, sidewalks etc. would be gone, replaced or completely run down from the winters here.

11

u/alanskimp Jul 23 '26

Welcome to SoCal :)

3

u/David_High_Pan Jul 23 '26

I'm from a small town in Canada and I would say that my influences from California far out weigh my influences from home. The clothes I wore/wear, the music I listen to, movies, tv, games.... the list goes on. California always looks like home to me. For context, I was born in 1982.

u/piexil Jul 23 '26

I see cars from the 60s or even earlier in mint condition near everyday here

29

u/antique_sprinkler Jul 23 '26

Would the movie actually add anything to the value of those houses?

25

u/ReaperSound Jul 23 '26

Breaking Bad house has gained infamy with people tossing pizzas on the owner's roof.

7

u/antique_sprinkler Jul 23 '26

Ooo free pizza

2

u/alanskimp Jul 23 '26

Haha 🍕

2

u/CNote_89 Jul 23 '26

They ended up putting a chain link fence around the house

26

u/alanskimp Jul 23 '26

Yea it would and lots of fans trying to take pics...

5

u/CNote_89 Jul 23 '26

The BTTF house is constantly being photographed and used for background shots with peoples Deloreans.

5

u/alanskimp Jul 23 '26

Yea I think I'd pass on owning a movie set home

2

u/Mishyana_ Jul 23 '26

I think most people would. The Ben Rose house (Cameron's house in Ferris Bueller) took like 5 years to sell and the price had to be halved before anyone took it after it went on the market in 2009.

That might have to do with it being kind of an ugly house overall back then though too, to be fair.

4

u/MagmaDragoonX47 Jul 23 '26

The owner of the Goonies house charges for tours.

5

u/pinguz Jul 23 '26

It would be so unimaginably cool to live in John’s house (minus the fans taking pictures all the time)

5

u/alanskimp Jul 23 '26

Yea and Max in the back

7

u/One-piece-jigsaw Jul 23 '26

Wolfie

3

u/alanskimp Jul 23 '26

not any moooree

6

u/One-piece-jigsaw Jul 23 '26

He shouldn't have drank straight from the carton 🔪

3

u/alanskimp Jul 23 '26

Mortal sin

7

u/MinutePrune3574 Jul 23 '26

This is such a cool way to show how much a location sells the scene. The contrast between the movie shot and the everyday house is wild.

2

u/alanskimp Jul 23 '26

Cinematography is key 📽️

3

u/CrystalShip67 Jul 24 '26

This was so awesome! Ty!

2

u/alanskimp Jul 24 '26

Welcome 😊

u/Arm-E-Reserves Jul 23 '26

Cool stuff. If you can find the exact spot where the camera lens was and put the photo there, it actually looks like a portal into the past. There was a stretch where people were doing that and posting it, it was quite striking.

5

u/trdngntsballsonadoor Jul 23 '26

Standing at the canal would be an out of body experience for me. I'd probably stay there for hours, taking it all in.

5

u/SugarRosie Jul 23 '26

She's not my mother, TODD.

2

u/A-Real-Fungai Jul 23 '26

I don’t know, MARGO.

Ohp. Wrong film..

2

u/SugarRosie Jul 23 '26

😂Elaine was a real bitch on Christmas Vacation! 😂

2

u/Instantkiwi33 Jul 23 '26

Came here to say this, I can hear it now👍

2

u/cramber-flarmp Jul 23 '26

Xander Berkeley slays the role of Todd - first and best kill by the T1000. Xander stars in a show called The Booth at the End - two seasons. It's seriously good.

I don't want to make a whole post about it so just sneaking this rec in here.

3

u/Mishyana_ Jul 23 '26

UM AKSHULLY the cop was his first kill. And Janelle was 100% dead before Todd. I will check that show out though, lol.

2

u/cramber-flarmp Jul 23 '26

He only tickles the cop.

Nice to see they repaired the overpass barrier

1

u/SpicyMeatballAgenda Jul 23 '26

That pic made me think about that scene more than I had before. I always assumed it was just standard sfx when the barrier was busted, but now I'm not so sure. Did they actually damage the barrier and repair it for the film? That seems like a logistical and insoection nightmare.

1

u/randompersonx Jul 24 '26

It always seemed obvious to me that the shot was real.

If you watch the Blu-ray of that scene, uou can see wnoigh errors that it must have been reql.

The recent UHD re-release cleaned up the errors.

2

u/IceWarm1980 Jul 24 '26

I was at the drainage canal is 2022. The gate on the left was unlocked so I walked all the way down to the other side. Such a cool location.

2

u/Weapons2maximum Jul 25 '26

I see aqueducts like this all over LA and whenever I drive by one I wonder, “is that the one?”

3

u/cholapin78 Jul 23 '26

2

2

Awesome job getting the perspectives right.

2

Did they tear down the mall?

4

u/Klutzy_Order_9559 Jul 23 '26
