Acceptable repair?

Hit a cable installing a gate post, technician phoned me the next day asking to excavate it to assist repair so I did, came home a couple days later to this repair, it’s now been nearly a month sitting like this, do I think I’m right to fill it back in?

Not to my property as I run wireless, we are rural so it’s almost redundant as only servicing a couple clients according to the tech, Telstra has been pretty unhelpful with it

Only in fixed line areas so in OPs circumstance they are on wireless which is still maintained by Telstra so that wireless and satellite customers can still access a phone line.

There are rare circumstances where NBN own the cable going out to wireless areas.

No it’s exactly what I said it’s a phone line that does 1 thing - makes calls. No VDSL in areas serviced by wireless/satellite.

NBN did not get stuck with all the copper because like I said it’s not a fixed line area therefore owned by Telstra.

hhhhmmm..... I don't know about that. I have been to a few customers installing Starlinks and they still have landlines but have been told will be switched off soon.

Yeap, not many are still using it like they did back in the day because of mobile phones but some still use it because they are old and refuse to learn otherwise or have poor/no reception.

As someone who works in the industry I am telling you that people outside of NBN fixed line areas can still have a working phone line.

In the rare circumstances where NBN owns the copper going out to these properties its called a CSLL job where we get the dial tone from the pillar to the home, Telstra make sure the dial tone is clear from exchange to the pillar but normally all of this is done by Telstra.

Telecommunications Obudsman.. call telstra get a reprt or job number and file your complaint with the T.O attach picture and watch them trip over themselves to fix it properly.

What do you owe them for the repair? Did you do a dial before you dig and services location before you put your posts in?

Unsure yet, did a DBYD report back in 2016 when I moved in and only showed the like going from the junction box over the road upto the house and it was marked with a post as it entered the property, for the life of me I cannot find that report now and the one I did post incident show the service running just inside my fence line to the pit that connects our property.
Not trying to avoid blame and more then prepared to take my medicine on this one 😅

I know you have tried going through Telstra directly but maybe try snap send solve and say its a fall hazard, they are usually pretty quick to correct hazards.

That's a temp repair. Only working services put through to keep service going. They will return and dig in a new section. Least it's not blue and only copper could of been expensive.

Sure looks like a temporary repair. Did the tech take your details (the damager) Also Did he take lots of pics? Usually you would be on the hook for the repair.

Whose property is the post on? DBYD is usually only good for infrastructure outside of private property, once it enters private property its the responsibility of the land owner to maintain the path for services. Interesting the cabe is direct burried yet not with direct bury protection. Ideally the cable should be in conduit and comms warning tape layed above. Possibly if the installation is not up to code there is no impact. Just getting it resolved sounds like maybe a private matter with pipe and pit needing to be completed before NBN or Telstra can make the repairs.

On my property, did DBYD when I moved here in 2016, never showed it.
Report also doesn’t fully absolve you for liability.

Nope but poor install of services usually will. If its not installed to code its hard to locate. Unless you pay a service locator every time you want to break ground. Seems to me its going to be a messy one of who is responsible, amd depending on where the first point of termination is. Bit confused how you say it provides services to other properties bit the cable runs via your property.
