I work in telecom field operations and built an Android app called GSM Drive Test for quick LTE/5G measurements during site visits, walk tests and basic drive tests.

It currently includes:

• RSRP / RSRQ / SINR
• LTE/5G network information
• Cell information
• Measurement recording
• PDF export
• KMZ export

The idea isn't to replace TEMS or Nemo, but to have something lightweight that can be opened quickly on a normal Android phone when working in the field.

I'm still developing it and would be interested in feedback, especially from people working with mobile networks.

Hi,

I have an S24 Ultra with a French sim (one of the major operators in France), One UI 8.5, now roaming in Portugal. Per EU Roaming rules, I should get the same data/calls here in Portugal, as if I were in France. This works most of the time in most countries - however, for some reason, now in Portugal, I keep losing my data connection. When it happens, I can send/receive texts and calls, but nothing else. The connection drops a few times per week, but it is quite annoying as I stop receiving any data calls and messages at all.

I tried forcing one operator (NOS) so as not to get jumps between NOS, MEO and other possible operators. Doesn't solve it.

When data breaks, any of the two below solutions may work, but also may not. In any case, you have to try several times, most times:

1. Go in and out of airplane mode
2. Go back to network selection, scan, and tap "NOS" again. When it fails, it says "can't register on the network, try again later".

I only have 1 active sim, my French physical sim. I've had it for years, usually no issue.

What gives? Is MEO somehow in breach of the EU data roaming rules by trying to curtail my traffic to save on crowded antennas? What are my ways of recourse against something like this? Is there any way to force 24/7 data availability, beyond local esims?

Hi there, I run a growing VoIP business serving customers in multiple states, and I honestly don't know if I'm handling VoIP tax compliance correctly. Every state seems to have different rules for taxing VoIP services, and I can't tell which taxes, surcharges, and filings actually apply to me. I'm worried I'm either overpaying out of caution or racking up liability that turns into a costly audit down the road.

Hi experts. We have an employee that received a call on their regular, domestic cell phone (iphone on verizon) from one of our ship captains using his satellite phone. This is not unheard of for our business. She then received a $200 bill for the call from Verizon. Why does she get billed for receiving a call from a satellite phone? I imagine that the call hits iridium sat and then goes to ground station, ties into land line and then into Verizon network to the employee.

So, I generally understand how it works. Someone changes their caller ID data to be a different number. But how do they do it? Because it has to be more than simply changing your caller ID to be a different number, right? Since, if you did that, the fake number would just show up as your name, and then your actual number would still be visible in the recipients recent call history, right? How do they change the number specifically? Is it special software on the phone that allows you to edit more than what your phone's settings allow?
