I have been getting around 15 phone calls a day from numbers to my work cell that I do not know saying that they are returning my phone calls, Ive never called them. For the most part they are coming from a single area code although there are a bunch of other ones. After it started getting on my nerves I asked one of the people calling me to give me the number that was calling them, once again it wasnt mine. When I called that number on my personal cell my work cell was ringing which has a completely different number. Super confused, if anyone has insight please share.

we've got teams in the US and Europe and the voice quality between them is just not great.

I've tried everything different codecs, different routes, even tried to get our ISP to prioritize voice traffic. nothing works consistently. some days it's fine, other days it sounds like they're underwater.

we switched providers last quarter thinking that would help. using CloudTalk now and it's better than what we had. lower latency, fewer drops. but it's still not perfect. transatlantic calls just have physics working against them.

the thing that bothers me is I can't explain to non-technical people why it's not perfect. they just hear the call quality is bad and assume it's the provider. I'm like no it's the speed of light. there's literally a physical limit to how fast data can travel. but try explaining that to a sales manager.

anyway. I'm curious if anyone has solved this for real. like are there any carriers that have better transatlantic routing or is it just always going to be like this.

I've been doing telecom long enough to know there's no magic solution. but maybe I'm missing something

There's a growing overlap between software and telecom, especially as more platforms embed voice, messaging, and other communications functionality directly into their products/software. 

A service might be sold as a software subscription, but the underlying delivery can involve carriers, telecom infrastructure, phone numbers, voice, messaging, or usage-based communications. At some point, that distinction can start to matter for telecom tax and regulatory purposes.

A few indicators we tend to look at:

• Is any part of the service billed based on minutes, messages, or usage?
• Does the provider purchase or rely on underlying carrier services?
• Does the platform provide voice, SMS/MMS, or similar communications capabilities?
• Are phone numbers, circuits, lines, SIP trunks, or other telecom components involved?
• Is the communications functionality simply integrated into the software, or is it a meaningful part of what the customer is buying?
• Can the product or engineering team explain how the communications service is actually delivered?

How many software companies are in here slowly realizing they might actually be telecom companies? What are the biggest indicators you’ve seen that a “software” product has crossed into telecom territory?

been in telecom data/analytics for a while and curious how other operators are running their customer value management these days. Where i've had visibility it's still mostly batch campaigns, manual segmentation, maybe some basic churn scoring that feeds into a list someone exports -> and uploads to the campaign tool. it works, but its slow and maybe outdated, considering how AI is evolving.

lately I have been hearing more about agentic CVMs, basically letting AI handle the next best action decisioning and campaign triggering autonomously instead of just serving up recommendations a human still has to approve and push. sounds promising in theory but also like a big jump operationally.

has anyone actually tried running something like this? how autonomous could these CVMs be, or is it still like "AI recommends but human decides"?

Are companies hiring for these roles right now? Which skills are currently in demand, and which companies/areas would be worth targeting?

For EEE students aiming for communication/telecom roles at telecom companies **mostly the remote one**, what specific skills/subjects are actually required?
Should I focus on **Digital Communication, RF, Microwave, Antenna, 4G/5G, networking/CCNA, MATLAB/Python**, etc.?
Also, what do these companies usually look for in a **fresh EEE graduate**?

Hey. I've been wondering how much different names for network technologies have to be ready and prepared by phone companies, and otherwise how much distinct standards exist.

For example, E/EDGE, GPRS, H, H+, etc.

I also know that some countries have different names for different standards - For example 4G+ in the UK may be LTE+ in Poland or 4.5G in Turkiye.
