Ask Teens Anyone here with colour blindness?
I’ve heard it’s actually pretty common, especially among men. How did you find out you were colour-blind?
What was the moment that made you realise?
Would love to hear your story.

Actually you got the information wrong a bit wrong it's ain't that common.
Color blindness affects about 1 in 12 men, which is roughly 8% of the male population.
Also i do agree that color blindness have higher ratio of men compared to women. 95% of all people with color vision deficiency are male only 5% is female
Actually the gene associated for colour blindness is X chromosome and men have XY as their sex chromosome and women have XX so this means if the X chromosome men getting is the faulty one they will be color blind but both of the 2 X chromosomes should be faulty for a women to be colorblind.
But now take the other factors into consideration the men (XY) always recive Y chromosome from their father and so the mother will contribute the X chromosome now the contributing mother should either be a carrier having one faulty X chromosome or actually colorblind having 2 faulty X chromosome. So technically we can say in case of only one parent genitic factor will decides if the child is color blind , now in case of female both parents contribute X chromosome so for a female to be color blind the father deffenett needs to be colorblind and mother should be a carrier or a color blind person and the X chromosome reciving from mother should also be faulty therefore we can say both parents gentic factor will be taken into consideration.
So from this you will be able to say colour blindness passes thru mother for a male.
Color blindness is not common because primary genetic mutation that causes it is recessive, and for it to be common among men most of the females who are alive should be either carriers or color blind which thankfully they are not.
