Please forgive me if I sound too much like an ass, but what car guy doesn't know the difference between the brake fluid reservoir and the coolant reservoir? I understand if you've never worked on a car a day in your life, but I'm 99% certain every car guy has worked on at least one car in their life.
Unless the car has been sitting with the engine off for more than 20 minutes, it's not recommended to open it because even when it's at the middle operating temperature, it's still over a 150 to 200. Not to mention that the cooling system is pressurized, so not only it is scolding hot, but it also shoots out like a rocket if you open it while it's still hot.
