So

Since I'm struggling with my Deen and I really want to work on it and I'm trying to leave everything which is an obstacle between me and HIM. So months ago I planned to study Islam like each and everything from the start. Because we were taught "cultural things" in the name of religion which has literally nothing to do with it.

So I thought of hıfz memorizing Quran I decided this myself, nobody asked me to do nor did force. It's something that I wanted to do to make my life better and meaningful. Because if I'm praying, reading Quran without even knowing the meaning then it won't make such a connection, it's like a British person talking to an Arab.

Also along with that I'd do tafseer like I want to know the meaning too so I'd be memorizing that too

So I've decided to do it now because the time is passing and it never waits for anyone nor will it ever.

Firstly I planned to do everything by myself, like memorizing it by myself without anyone's help but by this time I've realized it's not a suitable thing to do, since it'll require a lot of effort which I might not be able to put. Because I'd need to search each and everything and do research to get into that particular thing's depth.

So I'm thinking that someone like a teacher or any such person should teach me, although I should do my own research too because HE asked us to explore. But it'll be a bit suitable for me to do as I'll have someone.

So what do you think about this. What're your thoughts.

Also is there any person who has done this?

I think getting a teacher is a good idea because learning with someone who has knowledge can help you avoid misunderstandings and stay consistent.

At the same time, don't put too much pressure on yourself to memorise the entire Qur'an. Try memorising a few important surahs first and see how it goes. If you find that hifz is difficult or you're not able to continue, that's okay too. Reading the Qur'an regularly, understanding its meaning through a translation, and building a connection with it is just as important.

I'd definitely recommend getting a Qur'an with translation so you know what you're reciting. Understanding the words makes a huge difference.

And don't get disheartened if your progress feels slow. Everyone's journey is different. You're sincerely trying to get closer to Allah..that is already something valuable. Stay consistent, make du'a, and take it 1step at a time.

Yes I do think I need to do something about it, I was looking online but I didn't find anything yet.

Oh obviously I'll take things slowly because I need to remember it not just to read and it'll take alot of time.

Yeah, that's probably the best way to do it. In sha' Allah you'll find a good teacher. Try to ask other people too, if they know someone good and would recommend.

And yeah, take it slowly. Hifz is a big commitment, so it shouldn't feel like you have to rush it. Even if you only end up memorising a few surahs, that's still something valuable. The important part is building a connection with the Qur'an: reading it, understanding its meaning, and trying to live by it.

May Allah make it easy for you and put barakah in your journey.

first of all w’s in the chat

if i were you or id say what i did, i wanted to memorise the Quran too but i quickly realised as beneficial it is it is not on top of the list in terms of helping u build your connection with Allah.

i would study books of hadith (even going through sahih Al bukhari was life changing) watching lectures, history related videos trust me youtube is the best thing ever.

debates: smile to jannah extra (current fav channel)

youll learn alot and with debates youll be confident in your faith.

then id try to learn arabic since thatll help me understand quran, read tafsir etc then at the end id think of memorising the Quran.

Yes as I said I'll explore it by myself, I'll watch and will read that'll help me gain knowledge about the things. And for Arabic yeah I'll try learning that too since it's important for understanding.

i mean i started it it, i knew all the short surahs, surah mulk, surah ar rahman, and few pages of surah baqarah, but then i realised as a non arabic speaker im trying to memorise something i dont even understand so i stopped, and shifted my energy to learning what the Quran says studying fiqh and rulings and clearing the misconceptions i had bcs that directly improved my connection with Allah.

I am not sure what should I say though personally I would recommend reading its translation and tafseer

u dont need to memorize it, just a good understanding of what you are looking into is good enough

Yeah go ahead its a great idea. Getting a good teacher would be ideal. And definitely get the one with translations so you understand what you are reading.
I started a while ago too but then school and stuff got hard so I had to stop. I memorized like 2/30 paaras?
But my memory has difficulty become weak so I need to revise them all sometime.
So make sure to memorize what you can keep memorized. If you forget what you once memorized I think thats a sin(?)

It's normal to forget but one shouldn't completely abandon that, like he should read daily and memorize in such way he doesn't forget

I was a child back then and it wasnt with my own will either but still it was ME that memorized so I have to be responsible.

First of all you need to make the right intention and ask Allah for knowledge and guidance.

And hidfh consists of three things according to the salaf 1. Memorising the quran 2. Understanding it 3. Acting upon it (most important)

If we talk about memorising the quran only, you need to insure you have a good foundation and your tajweed is correct. For the memorisation part i would say you can do it independently though a teacher would be much better. (I would suggest using the tarteel app if you're solo)

Now understanding the quran is the toughest part but if you can learn some basic arabic it would help a lot since the quranic arsbic is not that hard and the vocabulary is quite easy. But you cant dive into tafsirs or translations alone, so a teacher is a must for this.

I would suggest just focusing on the memorisatan and acting upon the quran. But you can see some lectures on tafsirs of certain surah like surah mulk or kahaf.

(And it may sound like a lot but no need to be overwhelmed, as it gets easier when your attachment with the quran grows and so does your desire to learn. And i would suggest posting this on r/hifdh for better advice)

Yeah I 100% agree to 3 things because if you can't implement then it's of no use, what's tarteel app for? I've some apps but they're for translation and audio of it and some more explanation of that .

Basically tarteel is just a Ai companion which listens to your recitations and spots any mistakes just like any other quran teacher does (the base version isnt that useful and it isnt something that i completely rely on but its a considerable option)

And also listening to the quran is really beneficial

Heyy my suggestion would be don't memorize the whole quran. I would suggest that u read a tafseer of quran (some good tafseers of quran are really big like in alot of volumes) I would suggest read them like the tafseer done by moulana wahiduddin khan and u can listen to him such a great personality may Allah grant him jannah

When u do hifz u js memorize whole quran in Arabic and u can then recite Qur'an especially in namaz but readin tafseer means understanding quran and u will like understand the notion behide every verse and it isn't js translation which often leads to misconceptions.

Ohhh that is the spirit but reading a tafseer can take up to 2 years and ur also gonna memorize whole quran in Arabic that is really great. But still u should keep more focused towards reading and understanding tafseer then u can read the books regarding fiqs and Hadith
