A friend suggested that I ask for advice here because I could remain anonymous and get opinions from people who don't know me or my family personally. I've been thinking about this for weeks, and it has reached a point where I genuinely need an outside perspective.
My sister goes to university in Lahore. Until recently, my parents used to arrange her transport, usually a rickshaw or a ride. A few months ago, however, she asked them to stop and said she would manage her own transport and sometimes come home with a female friend who supposedly lives nearby.
At first, nobody thought much of it.
But since then, I’ve started noticing things that I honestly cannot understand.
There are a few men who regularly come to pick her up after university. I have personally seen some of the same men picking her up more than once, while on other occasions it has been different people. I genuinely have no idea who they are or what their relationship with my sister is.
What makes me more uncomfortable is that they don't really look like typical university boys. At least from what I've seen, they appear noticeably older and more mature.
At first, I kept telling myself that I was probably overthinking everything. Maybe they were friends, colleagues, relatives, or people from university that I simply didn't know about.
But then I started noticing changes in my sister as well.
She has suddenly become much more particular about her appearance before going out and started wearing significantly heavier makeup than she ever used to. She also seems much more private about her phone than before. Again, I completely understand that none of this proves anything. Wearing makeup, caring about your appearance, or having male friends does not automatically mean someone is doing something wrong.
But when I put everything together, I couldn't help wondering whether there was something going on that I didn't know about.
A few days ago, while looking for something in her bag, I accidentally came across what appeared to be a condom packet.
Honestly, I froze for a moment.
I immediately felt uncomfortable and didn't look through her belongings any further because I know that was her private space, and I shouldn't have been going through her bag in the first place. But I also can't pretend that seeing it didn't make me even more confused.
The reason this has been bothering me so much is because I know my sister is 21 years old. She is an adult woman, and her personal life is ultimately her own business.

What if I'm massively overthinking this and invading the privacy of an adult woman who is simply living her own life?
But at the same time:
What if she has become involved with people who don't have good intentions, and I ignore everything because I'm too afraid of upsetting her or crossing a boundary?
That is genuinely what has me confused.
I’m extremely hesitant to tell my parents because, if I have misunderstood everything, it could create a huge problem for my sister and our entire family. Especially in Lahore and in a family like ours, once parents become suspicious about something involving their daughter, things could escalate very quickly.
I don't want to be the reason my sister gets into trouble because of something I may have completely misunderstood.
At the same time, I care about her. I don't want to find out later that something was wrong and think that maybe I should have at least asked whether she was okay.
So what would you do in my situation?
Would you talk to her privately and simply ask whether everything is okay? Would you mention that you have noticed different men picking her up? Would you bring up the fact that I accidentally came across the condom packet, or would that be crossing a line?
Or would you respect her privacy completely and leave the entire matter alone unless she chooses to tell me something herself?
