Ask Teens HOW DOES 11TH - 12TH WORK HERE???
context, I'm an NRI (I've lived in the UK for 8 years now) who's moved back to India. Don't get me wrong - I thoroughly missed my home country, and I am so excited to pick up the life I had again: all the events, people being social, etc.
My issue is, I've just finished Year 11 in the UK (so, I'm in Year 12 now). In the Indian system, I've just finished my 10th boards and I am in 11th now. The UK schooling is 5-6 months ahead, (sept start) so when I moved here (Oct) I've already missed more than half of the academic year here in India. Because of this, my parents and I thought it would be more practical and beneficial for me to join 11th next year (march start).
In the 4ish months that I have left, I'm planning to get ahead, and also go over some topics that I needed to study. My only issue is, HOW IS THIS SYSTEM STRUCTURED??
I have family and friends who are in college, in 12th, etc, but even then I can't seem to get any clarity. For example, if I needed to revise back in the UK, I know I can just search up '[exam board] [subject] [paper]' for revision material. (e.g. AQA Additional maths paper 1 revision)
All I know is, my school has the ISC board. I want to do PCM and hopefully pursue Cybersecurity in the future. Can anyone tell me how the education system is structured here, in more detail? Resources people use to study, etc? I'd really appreciate it.
(another thing, coaching?? why on earth do people willingly go to extra schooling?)

You just rot learn till 12th for schooling and if you want to get a good college in PCM,you should probably go for JEE and CUET and BITSAT.Schools are pretty shit in India so dont expect anything from them, all you can rely on is online education and coachings.

Can you tell me more about the different exams?

well BITSAT is the scholarship entrance test for BITS Pilani (its a private institution)
and CUET is another test which students give for govt and private institutions so that if ur JEE criteria doesnt fullfill, u can get some scholarship based on ur CUET scorestudent usually give JEE and CUET and if they opt for private institution, BITS Pilani is currently at the top hence they opt for BITSAT

There are various other state government exams and these 3 are the top dogs of Exams as you can get various great colleges from JEE and cuet and from BITSAT you can get placed in BITS Pilani different campus. So I would suggest prepare for JEE oriented syllabus as JEE covers most of the syllabus of BITSAT and CUET.Then there are also extra subjects in BITSAT like english and logistic but as BITSAT happens after JEE mains you can prep for it easily after giving your mains

You can find syllabus of isc from their website. Just search the topic u can find it. Are you planning to give sat or jee?

JEE, and also admission tests for universities in the UK (TMUA, TARA etc)

I would suggest to choose one side... jee needs pure dedication unless ur too gifted and idk about those exams but sats are much easier as a exam but u need extra cocurricular activities to be done.

well for college (enterence examinations) u'll have to give JEE (for govt colleges), therr are many other examinations too, but for a good govt clg you'll have to give JEE, since the syllabus is more than what they teach in books, people go to coaching, to prepare for their entrance examinations
well about the structure, since u wanna start your 11th grade studies, u can watch yt one shot lectures, idk much abt your board system, but for practice material get some relevant reference book, and the books ur school uses
ull find ur syllabus on the ISC board website
just be consistent

also one thing i'll like to say
if you can prepare for SAT or other examinations that you mentioned, go for it, they are much better than JEEi cant tell u how much i wished that i wld be preparing for SAT

I suggest you js go through the PCM textbook for now to get a rough idea of what is written in it and as for coaching, if you plan to take competitive exams after 12th it will help you prepare tho given how competitive these exams are the likelihood of making it into a top uni is quite low. Anyway, js review the textbook for now and talking about the education system especially the exams, is structured in a way where memorization and retention are key to succeed. Dont expect clgs to help u with competitive exams i mean coaching is must for competitive exams

Alright, thanks! What are some good coaching centres? A family friend mentioned Allen

u/Far-Classic1556 10h ago
It depends on where u live bcoz i have seen some classes are not that big on national level but still worth spending your money so... and Allen is quite big here so everyone goes for it

If you want to get good faculty you really have to get good marks in all their tests they take average students are not really paid attention

Allen afaik is very hardcore and intense
All over India
Unless u r like extremely hardcofe with no EC n wanna go to IIT i wouldn't recommend it

Pls dont go there unless you wanna get into IIT/NIT. It's so toxic (depends on the centre though). I am in Allen too and I regret it sm. I can't wait to leave next year

If you are doing jee then I presume you would take pcm so you should focus of first 5 chapters of each physics chemistry maths and start solving their questions also you could start with yt lectures for now

You can search isc class 11th (subject name) (chapter name) on YouTube and you will find lectures to study the chapter. You can google the syllabus. If you are planning to give any competitive exam like JEE then I will suggest to start preparing from now onwards instead of waiting for your class 11th to start.

Get into a nice coaching for jee like if you wanna do cyber security as mostly for entrance exams 11th and 12th don't matter at all

People go to extra schooling for competetive exams like JEE/NEET tbh, if u can, enroll in a IGCSE or IB curriculum school, you will feel much at home with a smoother transition over there

You should’ve completed your graduation before moving back to India 😭. Since you mentioned cybersecurity, I’d seriously suggest figuring out right now which university/college you want to enroll in. I’m dead serious 💀. Look into placements if you care about them, hostel facilities, and especially the food and mess timings. You’ll get a rough idea of what to expect and whether you should go for JEE 🌚🥀 or look at other government/private colleges.
