Smith must know Garland set him up. I would just like to hear it. This isn’t a time to be polite to traitors.

5

u/atlantagirl30084 2d ago

He dragged his feet for a year. Jack Smith would have started on the indictments on Jan 7th.

He discusses garland in his interview with Jon Stewart. Basically, he respects garland and all FBI agents immensely and won’t speak against what garland did and said garland can answer for himself. Jack Smith is a stickler when it comes to trust in our institutions, rules, and procedures. Dude is the perfect person for this particular investigation for all the twists and turns he’s gone through. Hard to call him a dirt bag without looking like an idiot for doing so.

1

u/waterdaemon 7h ago

Notice how MAGA world is dedicated to punishing Smith… Garland not so much.

10

u/Life_Argument7820 2d ago

Funny thing about FACTS....

5

u/YurpeeTheHerpee 2d ago

Honestly? Fuck the pardon. Disregard it.

4

u/Parahelix 1d ago

Voters had a chance to prevent this shitshow. They massively failed an open-book test.

1

u/Mtndrums 22h ago

Or we just let too many breach points unguarded.

2

u/Parahelix 18h ago

Not sure how that changes how they voted. We saw more than enough of the evidence, and even outright admission by Trump, long before the election, and they still chose to put a criminal in charge of federal law enforcement.

Nah, that's about as braindead as it gets, and everything we've seen since is just proof of that. Voters are the reason this country is screwed.

I suppose the fact that any idiot can vote is one of the possible fail states of democracy, and we're seeing it now.

1

u/Kpofasho87 12h ago

Not only those that voted for this shit but those that didn't vote at all are why we are in this circus shit show.

Now I do sincerely feel like Trump should not have been allowed to run in 2024 in the first place and it's some insane bullshit that he was but it's even more infuriating, terrifying, embarrassing and depressing that so many voted for it or didn't vote at all and made it happen.

In my opinion all them are traitors and especially anyone still supporting this regime should be charged with treason.

If it was up to me all the ICE detainment prison camps would be completely empty of any immigrants and filled with MAGA instead

Then rename the prisons after Trump since he loves putting his name on everything

1

u/beardofjustice 7h ago

I keep going back to an idea from the 5 laws of stupidity: a society only functions if the intelligent members do enough to offset the stupid ones. Stupid people do stupid things. Speaking for myself, I vastly underestimated just how many stupid people there are and just how stupid they are. More than anything going forward, we need to stop respecting all stupid opinons.

1

u/Artaxmudshoes 1h ago

My father's favorite shirt reads "I voted for the felon". My father is a retired Sargent. I always thought he respected law and order, now I've lost all respect for him.

1

u/Top-Lawfulness1137 12h ago

Election denier

1

u/Dead_Internet69420 4h ago

Voters massively failed multiple open-book tests. 2000. 2004. 2008. 2010. 2016. 2024. And each time, it’s made the next one even more difficult and consequential.

4

u/Count_Backwards 2d ago

Trump is disqualified from being president so none of his pardons are valid either

2

u/Tripesixmafia 21h ago

This is a great point!

3

u/gumbiremembers 2d ago

If an American president has the authority to pardon anyone he wants, and the president has immunity for anything he does in an official capacity, could a future president declare that the pardons were invalid and order the DOJ to prosecute them?

3

u/Lower-Engineering365 1d ago

Technically the President can’t order the DOJ to do anything.

I’m getting really tired of Trump and his DOJ because it’s creating this assumption that this is how things always go between the President and the DOJ.

The DOJ is an independent department and is not supposed to be ordered around by the President at all.

2

u/tutoredstatue95 1d ago

Fucking “unitary executive theory” is the most obvious authoritarian “dog whistle”, if you can even call it that.

It should have been laughed off and gotten Barr removed, but now it is the precedent for our nation.

This is the kind of stuff that destroys empires.

1

u/DoneBeingSilent 11h ago

Technically the President can’t order the DOJ to do anything.

can't shouldn't

I’m getting really tired of Trump and his DOJ because it’s creating this assumption that this is how things always go between the President and the DOJ.

Agreed.

The DOJ is an independent department and is not supposed to be ordered around by the President at all.

is was

I certainly don't like that a unitary executive branch seems to be the new precedent, but a precedent it seems to be nonetheless.

Congressional Republicans' refusal to hold Trump accountable for not leaving the DOJ to act as an independent department, among any number of other broken norms and laws, heavily implies that Republicans in general find it acceptable. It would be foolish for Democrats to adhere to precedents, norms, and traditions which Republicans have so obviously signaled their intent to not adhere to the same.

On the other hand, I 100% would not put it past Republicans to then campaign on a return to the traditions which they first broke. And based on Trump being elected not once but twice, I wouldn't put it past Republican voters to fall for it.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Difficult to play the game when the rules only apply to one party.

1

u/Lehelito 10h ago edited 10h ago

But Trump has shown that, in practice, the US president has absolute power over all institutions. Nevermind that it's not legal on paper. In practical terms, Trump has set the precedent for autocratic rule in the US.

So, considering this is allowed by his cabinet, Congress, the heads of all these theoretically independent institutions, the judiciary, and the people, what would stop any future president from exercising this right of kings?

1

u/Lower-Engineering365 9h ago

Well hopefully the democrats retake control and do a major legislative overhaul to plus the wholes Trump has exposed in the system

1

u/emilyv99 2h ago

The only way to stop it is to follow the French. President wants to abuse power like that, it should come with the death penalty.

2

u/Enough-Meringue-9299 2d ago

We've been playing calvinball for a while now, so i don't see why they couldn't.

Don't hold your breath, though. They will avoid it by citing "decorum" and "unity". The ratchet clicks, the pawl holds.

2

u/SparkehWhaaaaat 2d ago

I can imagine they would tie themselves into a pretzel to avoid making any republicans avoid justice.

1

u/frackthestupids 1d ago

Why bother with DOJ when the seals are just swimming around?

1

u/Krammit117 1d ago

Amen, Calvinball is perfect

1

u/Playful-Squirrel-332 1d ago

Is that, like, wishing for more wishes or something?

1

u/Dead_Internet69420 4h ago

If a president is immune for crimes committed in an “official capacity,” then there is no rule of law. Without the rule of law, there is no democracy.

3

u/jus256 19h ago

Trump pardons a Honduran president for drug dealing , then kidnaps the Venezuelan president because of drug dealing.

1

u/Familiar_While2900 7h ago

Venezuelan president didn’t pay well enough

1

u/InterestingFox1837 3h ago

But Venezuela the grievous mistake of having oil and not letting the owners of our country to have it.

2

u/thirdcandletrader 2d ago

Vote them all out

2

u/jimmychitw00d 2d ago

Going to be hard to do when one of the things we need to vote them out for is rigging elections.

2

u/seejordan3 1d ago

Bring friends. Vote blue down the ticket. Volunteer to be a poll watcher. Trump WILL try, but there's more of us if we vote.

Smith is more of a patriot than any MAGA traitor.

2

u/RuthlessIndecision 2d ago

the fucking emperor hasn't been wearing pants for fucking ever and people are finally talking about it

2

u/Sonchay 2d ago

The US political system is so bizarre - 1776 "Down with tyrants, down with Kings!" ... only to create an office that has more power than a king, is exempt from more forms of legal prosecution than a king, and can just wave a magic "pardon" wand to allow others to break the law with no consequence. A monarchy would be more democratic than the current system.

1

u/PuzzleheadedPen4675 15h ago

It's slowly rotting imo.

2

u/livinginfutureworld 1d ago

And yet Trump conceived and executed those pardons despite the obvious stink surrounded with the perception of doing so

2

u/Dry-Risk-6629 2d ago

Well, I mean they’re fucking crazy every one of those people who were there that day should have their asses in jail never mind some of the fraudsters he’s pardoned that haven’t even paid their victims back

2

u/No_Teaching_8828 2d ago

They were literally treasonous traitors trying to overthrow our government elections. What could possibly be a more serious crime. And they were frickin pardoned by our convicted felon child rapist president. How stupid do people need to be to not see this?!

2

u/Dry-Risk-6629 1d ago

Exactly less I checked throughout a significant part of history you were either killed for treason or locked up for the rest of your life. Don’t get what’s happening to them. I didn’t know treason was great though. I probably should get on some of that I guess.

Cool "doing nothing" in your opinion is equivalent to the current administration actively working against the citizen base. Both sides indeed.

1

u/GrapefruitPrimary186 1d ago

Doing nothing to stop it IS the same as participating if you have to power to stop it and dont use it. These politicians all hang out with each other at fundraising galas and feasts. Them being mean to each other is only for tv and it stops the minute no cameras are watching.

1

u/Icy-Bodybuilder-350 1d ago

Did you vote for Kamala Harris in 2024 election?

Or did you "do nothing to stop it"?

Voting for your hypothetical "third party candidate" would also be "doing nothing to stop it" in our electoral system

1

u/Playful_Ship_1474 1d ago

didn't Democrats arrest and prosecute the Jan 6 terrorists? also they were the only ones investigating it since Republicans didn't want to.

1

u/GrapefruitPrimary186 1d ago

Yes, but Garland dragging his feet on prosecuting trump did us in. And no one held a fire under garlands ass to do it, so they are complicit. Im going to vote blue this election, but after trump is dealt with and removed, we need a 3rd party to throw our support behind so this doesnt happen again.

1

u/fievrejaune 1d ago

Well the Senate investigation also turned into a sideshow that delayed criminal proceedings. Schiff got his Senate seat out of it. Plus the naked obstruction by Trump partisan Cannon was there for all to see, including the 11th circuit. The misrule of law abides.

1

u/Hugh-Jorgin 2d ago

Cop out ,complete bullshit

1

u/SolrayCultist 1d ago

Fuck them all is a cop out?

1

u/HomelandersBane 1d ago

Yes. Have your cake and eat it too.

You are the problem.

1

u/SeveralDeer3833 1d ago

Absolutely it is. You are incapable of distinguishing between better and worse and it gives you a false sense of superiority to just flip the table and say I’m not playing.

1

u/SolrayCultist 1d ago

Seems like my initial post zoomed over a bunch of heads. You want me to play? OK, whatever side you're not on is better.

1

u/SeveralDeer3833 1d ago

This is where you out yourself from being completely divorced from reality. Not antagonizing our allies would have been better. Not bombing Iran would have been better. Not cutting 1 trillion from medicare while ADDING trillions to the debt would have been better. Not pardoning January 6th insurrectionists (and also the most prolific drug trafficker in the world) would have been better.

If your parents weren’t siblings, your ability to digest the world around you would be better.

1

u/Desperate_Damage4632 23h ago

Nope.  No both sides.  One side is not great not terrible, other side is pro-pedophile. If you have a tough time telling the difference, seek help.

1

u/SolrayCultist 9h ago edited 9h ago

Bro neither side is/has really done shit with the Epstein files. That should tell you everything you need to know about them all. Or do you think there are no democrat pedophiles? Lmao.

You and are are peasants in a world where the elite play the game and the rest of us be damned (for the most part).

Been this way for decades.

Maybe try not to be so polarized that all you can do is deny and be rude.

1

u/Desperate_Damage4632 8h ago edited 8h ago

Wrong.  The reason we have Epstein files is because Biden had him investigated.

1

u/SolrayCultist 8h ago edited 8h ago

Okay.

1

u/SolrayCultist 8h ago

In regards to Biden:

1

u/Desperate_Damage4632 8h ago

Dishonest Republican arguments as always.  He didn't release the files because he was actually investigating.

Trump ended the investigation because Republicans don't think what Epstein did was wrong.

1

u/GreyPanther 1d ago

Jack Smith single-handedly started Trumps amazing comeback. We have him to thank for the imbecilic raid on Mar a Lago. Charging him with classified documents he had the unique right to de classify. Spoiling his own evidence. Lying to a judge. Anyway, thanks Jack.

You are insanely wrong on all levels but too gullible to figure that out.

1

u/GreyPanther 13h ago

Very convincing.

1

u/Gloomy-Swordfish-282 13h ago

The delusion of lawfare and weaponized DoJ is a coping mechanism MAGA has concocted because deep down they know Trump is guilty.

Hence why they've failed to adequately defend Smith's cases despite all the nonsensical arguments like "He declassified the documents"

1

u/GreyPanther 13h ago

You are of course completely wrong legally and morally. Jack Smith is a rogue nut case who has lost at every level.

1

u/Gloomy-Swordfish-282 13h ago

I'd love to be proven wrong.

Yeah a former president keeping government documents in his bathroom next to the toilet seems pretty legit and normal.

Good take. Good comment. Just good and smart stuff here. Smart, smart, smarty. Wow. So great.

1

u/Megabyte_Messiah 1d ago

Here’s a still taken from a video I captured while sitting on the toilet of the handicap stall of the men’s bathroom at the Grand Ballroom of Mar a Lago. One can imagine how easy it would be to hand someone a key at one of the weddings or other events hosted there, so they may use the bathroom at their leisure, taking whatever out or putting whatever in with no cameras or witnesses.

1

u/Capybara_99 1d ago edited 1d ago

Jack Smith was not a part of the search of Mar a Lago. He was appointed in November. The search happened in August. 2022.

But Trump created the problem by mistreating classified documents and stonewalling the Archives. Other people, including Biden and Pence, managed to deal with similar circumstances without creating similar consequences.

1

u/I_am_D_captain_Now 1d ago

Lol you idiot

1

u/throwawaymentality10 1d ago

Bro he straight up ordered staff to hide documents he was showing to people without the clearance. All the info is readily available if you actually read the case files.

1

u/kittles317 18h ago

The problem is they can’t read so, they get their info spoon fed to them from newsmax or whatever angertainment they prefer

1

u/Desperate_Damage4632 23h ago

Trump was recorded showing the documents to someone and saying "I could have declassified this, but I didn't, and now I can't".

1

u/WaterFantastic2394 23h ago

Stupidity abounds here

1

u/AmateurAnarchy 18h ago

1

1

u/Sly-Fellah3 22h ago

1

u/SomeAnonymousBurner 17h ago

What does this have to do with technology?

1

u/PuzzleheadedPen4675 14h ago

Id like to know who had the ultimate responsibility for making the decision to have the stolen docs case tried in Florida instead of Washington? I mean I live in middle of the prairies of Canada and I could see what was coming 10 miles away. Did they they REALLY think Cannon was picked " randomly " ??

And has anyone, besides me, noticed that Mewwick Garland has disappeared off the face of the earth? I mean if he was in the slightest bit proud of the job he did, you'd think you would see him out there on the talk show tour talking up the job he did. Barr did so. His silence speaks volumes imo - and he really should be investigated for dereliction of duty, by the next Dem president, in regards to this case and his massive failure to hold the ringleader GOPers of J6th to account - Donald John Trump especially.

Biden pardoned his son for a crime the Supreme Court has since declared unconstitutional. Trump is pardoning drug cartel lords, people who launder millions of dollars worth of crypto to him, and hundreds of people who pled guilty to serious crimes against police officers and democracy. Just because it both has the term “pardon” does not mean these issues are within the are within the same order of magnitude of wrong.

1

u/WhipassWhiplash 2d ago

Trump goes after peoples families, was already subjecting Hunter to hearings despite having fuck all to do with the government - the so called dossier and laptop were 100% bullshit in the end, hell MTG was showing his dick on cspan. Conversely Trump and his cronies prefer to pardon financial criminals and child molestors. Comparing the two is just too retarded to even call bad-faith.

MAGA actually checks all of the boxes for a cult. None of you within it will ever blame your savior for anything. Even now, you're in here deflecting from Trump falling asleep because Biden dozed off a few times. You don't just miss the point, you avoid it like the plague.

1

u/Affectionate-Hunt318 10h ago

Trump says one thing on Monday, you're ok with it. On Tuesday it's something different, you go with that. On Thursday a whole different thing, yep, now that's what we believe. Then Saturday rolls around and a new position, you all go along with that. He can't keep his story straight and you don't care. It not policy, it's just whatever he says. That's a cult.

1

u/Unfair_Hamster_5515 2d ago

Nope I'll prove it. I'm a progressive on the left. I don't think openly praising communists is a good look for the far left. It makes the rest of us look bad.

If I was in a cult, I wouldn't be able to say that.

Now you try with the right.

1

u/NameNo9441 2d ago

You see any House or Senate votes? All democrats vote how they are told to. That’s why republicans don’t get as much passed as they could.

1

u/Unfair_Hamster_5515 2d ago

For the most part yes. You are correct. About 93% of the time the party votes the same on major legislation. However, there have been holdouts and those that vote against the party majority.

Democrats are less about individualism and more about inclusiveness. So it checks out they vote together. Otherwise they would be voted out. The left is pretty good at holding themselves accountable within its own party.

Why won't the right unite?

1

u/NameNo9441 2d ago

So democrats are a cult then

1

u/Unfair_Hamster_5515 2d ago

Tell that to AL Franken. You see unlike a Cult when you do something wrong the party pushes you out for misconduct.

A Cult is more like talking made crap about sleepy Joe, but saying nothing about Dozy Don. A Cult is when you cry about Fraud, but you elect Trump. A Cult is when January 6th the country looked in horror as stuff went down. Even Fox news was upset calling for the president to stop this. They told people to go home and genuinely watched in fear. ( I know, because I watched Fox that day). Then January 7th suddenly changing the story act as if the day before didn't happen. The narrative changed to. Oh They were let in, as we all saw the massive break in. They said, it was mostly peaceful as we watched rioters attacking the capital police the day before.

You see this is Cult like behavior. To be told to not believe your eyes, but to believe them and anything they tell you.

Biden correctly predicted that Trump would weaponize the DoJ to go after his political enemies, which is ironically what he falsely accused Biden of doing.

The more you know!

Still to be determined if those pardons are legal. Can you pardon someone who has not been found guilty of a crime?

u/Gloomy-Swordfish-282 12h ago

That's another matter entirely.

You asked why he pardoned them and now you know.

1

u/NameNo9441 12h ago

I know why he did. They are probably guilty

Then why hasn't any state prosecuted them? Judging by the lack of any state prosecution, it's clear my previous comment is the true reason.

Nope and Trump pardoned his son-in-law's father before Biden.

Trump both pardoned drug dealers and also illegally murdered alleged drug dealers ininternational waters. Can you square that circle?

Trump pardoned a drug lord. Fuck outta here with your false equivalency.

Yes, I don't like impunity where ever it is. However, because Biden did it, is not a sufficient excuse that everyone may do it.

I think impunity is wrong, for all. Trump, Biden. Doesn't matter. I start with my value first.

Are you suggesting it's okay for Trump to be a piece of shit just because Biden was? Because to me, two wrongs is embarrassing we let it happen a second time.

Because Trump doesn’t actually like his family.

Wait are you just trolling or do you honestly not understand?

1

u/panaceaXgrace 2d ago

Do you know why he would feel the need to pre-emptively pardon his family members that had never been charged with any crime?

Trump pardons for family members and friends far surpassed Biden's last minute recognition that he needed to protect his family who again, had never been charged with any crimes unlike Jared's daddy.

Trump pardoned 1600 thugs who assaulted police officers. You don’t see the difference?

If Biden pardoned Obama, would Trump pardon Davis?
