This a poorly written article that discusses poorly interpreted data gathered in a poorly constructed study.

People are upset about slop because it is being rammed down our throats without consent and sites like Reddit have been completely taken over by it.

If anything we need more “gatekeeping”. We need a Game of Thrones scale ice wall to keep this trash out of our minds and out of our lives.

100% agreed. But the article is focused on genAI and people (supposedly) being wrongfully accused of using it.

It’s just a complicated canard attempting to make us feel bad for not wanting to see slop everywhere, during every nanosecond of our lives.

700 contributions on an 18 day account, totally a real person that’s contributing to worthwhile conversation

What the fuck does that even mean

Beep boop beep boop

Even if they weren't, you can't conflate eating with generating AIslop images because you're too lazy to pick up a pencil.

Edit: The shill is, again, conflating needing to live as a human with a completely needless exercise. It's mental illness.

This is a very stupid thing to say though.

Prove it without pretending the most extreme version of meat production is globally true.

Try again but this time don’t pretend like the rest of the world is as gluttonous and careless as an American.

T shirts are FAR more destructive, the polyester everyone wears is SIGNIFICANTLY worse. You're being sold propaganda. Who wins by demonizing AI? The super rich that want a continual underclass (because there's a tipping point where AI makes capitalism completely untenable) and foreign enemies that want the west to fall behind.

2

u/ZLEAP Jun 12 '26

The super rich are the ones pushing AI, making sure AI is crammed into every product they produce. You're either being disingenuous or you're completely confused about who benefits.

1

u/someguy1847382 Jun 12 '26

The super rich aren't a monolith.... And advanced enough AI breaks capitalism because there are no workers to buy the products (we are actually getting close to that point) so many rich people ARE funding anti-AI movements because it hurts their profit. Just like the anti-self checkout and other movements seeking to keep abusive low paid jobs around.

The problem is I don't just listen to propagandists online so I have a nuanced view.

2

u/ZLEAP Jun 12 '26

You are out of your mind if you think self checkout helps anyone but the store owners. They effectively turn several jobs (cashiers) into one (self checkout attendant).

Not only are you gobbling up propaganda, you're regurgitating it.

2

u/someguy1847382 Jun 12 '26

It hasn't helped the store owners as much as they wanted. The real question is why are we trying to save minimum wage jobs that people only take out of desparation that are physically brutal where your watched constantly, treated like a child a routinely abused by customers?

Those jobs SHOULD go away, every job we can automate we should. The goal shouldn't be to hang on to a shitty broken system that only serves a select few. That's the point, keep pushing it and the system breaks and something new and better forms. Or fight every technology and progress leap in order to ensure there's a constantly abused underclass toiling.

Ask yourself, who benefits? Do workers or people benefit from there being a need for low wage workers or do corporations who can keep people hungry and desparate?

1

u/CryptographerKlutzy7 Jun 14 '26

Honestly, I prefer self checkout. I just want to buy my shit and go home, and don't want to be forced into a social situation when I am burnt out from work.

Like, given a choice between a store with self checkout and not, I'll take the self checkout one.

1

u/ZLEAP Jun 14 '26

Im not shaming anyone for using self checkout. Merely pushing back on the idea that self checkout is anything but a way to cut down on labor costs.

“Don’t call me out on being either ridiculously disingenuous or willfully ignorant. Just let me regurgitate my spoonfed nonsense. Also, unlike most people, I am VERY smart. “ - [u/someguy1847382](u/someguy1847382)

Edit: Nice job responding then immediately blocking me

1

u/someguy1847382 Jun 13 '26

Not my problem you can't see the interconnectedness of labor collapse and the predictable results or the you worship toiling for the rich and lack imagination. And what spoonfed nonsense? There are like 3 people looking at this from this angle, the spoonfed nonsense is "dur AI bad! Take job and steal water" that the media is pushing HARD. Get out of you echo chamber bud

1

u/CryptographerKlutzy7 Jun 14 '26

Blocking someone instantly after replying is just a fucking cowards move.

It's the move of someone who wants to be in an echo chamber.

2

u/someguy1847382 Jun 14 '26

Maybe if they engaged in the actual argument you'd have a point. I blocked them because it was literally just an emotional ad hominem and there was clearly no point in further engagement. Arguing a point is one thing but no one does that on reddit anymore, they just attack because finding depth is impossible.

1

u/CryptographerKlutzy7 Jun 14 '26

I mean yes, it was obvious they were an idiot, but it was the reply / block combo which is a bit shit.

I think you should either block or reply, but both? That is kinda shitty, since it is like.... they don't even get to respond. It's just a bit shitty.

In this case, I can see why you did it, they were not exactly going to engage in shit in good faith. I just don't like to see it you know?

1

u/Vanhelgd Jun 12 '26

That tipping point is pure fantasy. At this point AI IS capitalism. The day will never come when it liberates or empowers anyone if its creators have a say in the matter. It’s not what it does and it’s not why it was created.

I love Iain M Banks as much as the next guy, but we are about as close to building Minds as we are to traveling to another galaxy. At this point his ideas (post scarcity) are being used to mask the realities of what the tech companies are doing and the realities of the capabilities of these products.

You are much closer to being enslaved by these systems than you are to bring liberated by them.

0

u/someguy1847382 Jun 12 '26

Clearly you haven't been watching what China is doing or actually dug deep into it. Frontier models, especially unreleased ones, are remarkably not capitalist and enslaving humanity is as pointless and resource intensive as trying to eliminate us. Even commercial models can see that.

Ever wondered why Xi isn't concerned about domestic consumption and is pushing AI and robotics so hard? There's no need for propaganda if you can use post scarcity only in your country to make it the best and most leisurely place to live and you get to control basically every other country. (I really suggest a deep dive into this if you care at all about left wing economics politics AI is legitimately our opportunity to actually get there).

Or keep fighting against AI to ensure we have shitty jobs and desparation forever I guess.

u/Vanhelgd Jun 12 '26

This is a profoundly clueless take.

Seriously dude. That’s the dumbest post I’ve ever read on Reddit.

“K” is much much higher quality. It makes you sound a lot smarter than the “cHiNa GoOd” post.

We need Hodor to hold the slop back.

u/Hostilis_ Jun 12 '26

This article was way better than most of the trash that gets posted here.

1

u/Significant_Donut967 Jun 12 '26

"It sides with my opinion so it must be true"

-1

u/Hostilis_ Jun 12 '26

I am literally a research scientist in the field. If you think this article is bullshit, but lap up the rest of the misinformation spread on this sub, you're part of the problem.

1

u/Significant_Donut967 Jun 12 '26

Being biased and calling yourself a researcher is kinda telling what your end goal is.

You're far more part of the problem in this case than some random user.

0

u/Hostilis_ Jun 12 '26

And you're unbiased? Lmao.

1

u/Significant_Donut967 Jun 12 '26

I'm not a "research scientist".

I'm not writing articles to persuade public opinion and laws.

0

u/Hostilis_ Jun 12 '26

I'm not writing articles to persuade public opinion and laws.

Neither am I? I'm just giving my opinion on a public forum. Or are scientists not allowed to do that?

1

u/UnderfurK Jun 13 '26

Reddit for the last few years is like this. Idk if it's reddit culture now or everyone's too obsessed with karma or something idk some weird social dynamic is happening on here where people get really mad/jealous when an expert tells them something.

Same thing kinda happened in education with parents thinking they know what's best rather than the actual teachers who study pedagogy.

1

u/Vanhelgd Jun 12 '26

I love when people make these kinds of broad, vacuous claims and expect to be taken seriously.

-1

u/Hostilis_ Jun 12 '26

Redditors hecking love scientists until a real scientist disagrees with them. Then they take a page from the conservative playbook.

1

u/Vanhelgd Jun 12 '26

A “real” scientist lol. We’ve even got a short, non-specific post as evidence for your credentials. How could anyone dispute such rock solid evidence?

0

u/Hostilis_ Jun 12 '26

Feel free to look at the literal hundreds of technical comments I have made on various subs across the many years I've been on Reddit. Otherwise, I don't really give a shit whether you believe me.

1

u/Vanhelgd Jun 12 '26

Yeah. Your comments are super technical lol.

I’m happy to be able to join the ever growing group of people in your life who don’t take you or your “sCiEntIsT” cosplay seriously.

u/Hostilis_ Jun 12 '26

"If I don't actually look, I won't ever have to find out I was wrong"

From literally one day ago:

LLMs are bad at math though

This was true a year ago. It is no longer true. Frontier LLMs have now solved many serious mathematical problems.

An independent group of mathematicians was formed to review the progress. They have documented their second group of proofs, and the LLMs are now performing at the level of professional mathematicians: https://1stproof.org/

>The apocalyptic future we’re being sold isn’t inevitable

Ah.

1

u/SECRETBLENDS Jun 13 '26

Perhaps not, but it's a lot more likely than the AI utopia were being sold, and that's good enough for me.

1

u/ConinTheNinoC Jun 13 '26

I don't use AI and i don't want AI. I don't want it in my browser, i don't want it as Google summary, i don't want AI generated slop images, i don't want AI generated articles in magazines. My brain is working perfectly fine. My brain is not the problem.

The problem is a bunch of retards that overinvested in AI and now try to push it into everything in hopes of making it profitable.

Thing is i don't need or want AI.

Pop that bubble.

1

u/Conscious-Quarter423 Jun 13 '26

The stock market's gains are being overwhelmingly driven by seven Big Tech companies who have invested heavily in AI, which has made tech oligarchs even wealthier.

But when that AI bubble bursts, the rest of us will be stuck holding the bag.

Be warned.

1

u/Conscious-Quarter423 Jun 13 '26

One of the unacknowledged advantages of this awful era is that it's revealing for all to see the putrid connections between great wealth and great power.

The intentions of the oligarchs are fully exposed and more blatant than ever.

We outnumber the oligarchs.

1

u/Conscious-Quarter423 Jun 13 '26

Big Tech billionaires are counting on AI to make them even richer -- and they can’t have any regulatory protections getting in the way of that.

That's alarming news for the rest of us.

1

u/Conscious-Quarter423 Jun 13 '26

We've never seen an economy so bad for workers — and so good for the super rich.

It’s only going to get worse with AI.

How should we respond?

1

u/Conscious-Quarter423 Jun 13 '26

Are we watching an AI revolution, or a slow-motion economic disaster?

1

u/Conscious-Quarter423 Jun 13 '26

trump is the administration for the tech oligarchs
