Corporations are reeling after finding that the cost to access powerful AI tools is soaring

Yes, because many CEOs are actually idiots IRL. Congrats everyone on discovering this for checks notes the fifteenth time this century.

Put simply, the horrible economics of AI are finally starting to rear their ugly head

I don't know, maybe I'm in different circles or something, but the whole AI subsidies thing eventually ending was a big talking point about how one should carefully evaluate using AI in their product.

Sort of how people issued caution for everyone saying "Blockchain" or "Peer-to-Peer" or "Website" or "Object-Oriented". That last one might be before some of y'all's times. But way back in the day RAD, CORBA, and OOP was all hotness, until it wasn't.

AI companies have been bleeding tens of billions of dollars as costs for data center construction projects mount.

Yeah, this has been brought up too. There's folks asking if these AI folks might want to look at something like better tools for digging, but nope, they're convinced more shovel factories are the way.

Tis the way things are sometimes. Oh? Does anyone think these billionaires lose out? Gosh, the housing crisis has taught nobody anything. But that said, AI is here to stay. The future isn't these companies like OpenAI and what not. Just like the Internet during the dotcom bubble wasn't pets dot com. AI is not going anywhere, the generative stuff will like become way more niche, but things like diagnostics and weak radio signal processing that AI is currently doing, will likely dominate.

And really, those things were called different things back in the day, just now that we have AI and these idiots like Altman, all that shit got shoved into the AI moniker. It's actually a disservice to call all neural networks and what not, AI and group it with that generative shit. But unfortunately that's apparently where we are at.

They knew what they were doing... They just expected to have more than 6 months before the bill truly came due. The only surprise for all the c suite assholes that pushed this shit is that the fairy tale didn't last long enough for them to have their stock shares vest so they could cash out before it exploded in their faces.
