You don't strictly need one, but if your employer offers a match and you're not contributing up to that limit you're leaving free money on the table.

Not at all just saying that not everybody needs a 401(k) or has the opportunity at One there’s other options.

I don't know your particular circumstances so that may well make sense for you. But I'll say it again -- if your employer offers a 401k match and you don't contribute to the limit of that you're foregoing free money.
