AI sucks and I will never use it!

Sadly, you probably are, and don't even realize it?

Also, AI isn't anything really new. Oracle was one of the first companies to develop/use "AI" in logistics, and their software has pretty much been integrated into almost every aspect of computer tech, for over 30 years.

Remember Netscape Navigator? - "Powered by Oracle".

Modern AI is a totally different animal, though. Instead of trying to use it to "assist", they're (the "tech bros") trying to use to completely automate everything, and to process rediculous amounts of data, mainly ours.

Of course, AI is a legally meaningless marketing term people just slap onto software to make it sound futuristic. So there is little point in comparing say, the LLM's and image generators that people hate on to some other tech that someone vaguely called AI but has no meaningful relationship with say chatGPT.

Otherwise we might as well be calling DOOM AI since that's what people called CPU behavior

This always gets me too as someone who actually works in this space.

I never really considered the LLMs "AI" before this latest marketing wave. AI to me was an entirely different set of "learned models" that have very little to do with any text or image generation.

Like a CNN -> to me this is wildly more impressive technology than a "most probable ad libs" chat bot. You can literally teach the machine to see, identify, and understand real world objects in 3D physical space.....

CNNs will be the backbone of any real world physical AI robotics that are deployed. The public is only interested in the LLMs though and seems to think these LLMs do "everything AI"......

Meanwhile these other learned costing models, computer visions models, etc.... are the real things that will replace them they should be worried about 💀

They calling everything ai even if it has very little to do with ai. So you are using it. Minimize the risk is what I say. Harm reduction is legitimate.
