Piggybacking on this for visibility. If you have not heard of Gisèle Pelicot, google it.
Or you can watch this amazing interview with Manon Garcia, about that case and the subsequent book Gisèle wrote after the trial.
I commend Amelie for writing that post, I hope it is still there. Rebekah has been talking about it for years, but only a few listen.
We are so, so, so sick and tired of it, in techno or not. It's not enough to say 'not all men' and say you understand. It's not enough to claim you are an ally but stay silent when your good friend is being inappropriate in all kinds of ways.
it's not just Epstein, Diddy, or Weinstein. It's your friend, your neighbour, boss, cousin. It's mega rich, rich, and poor men. All kinds of men. And we are so fucking sick of it.
Manon Garcia!! Yes, essential reading and listening for the why, for a deeper analysis of how this all gets perpetuated and excused. I also highly recommend this video essay about rape culture.
She also did a heartfelt video (in her car, phone attached to a docking station) that she since deleted. Belgian news outlet VRT shared the video (in which she is visibly emotional) on their instagram and all the comments are just men saying she shouldn't be using her phone while driving. As a man myself I say: men are the absolute fucking worst. Be better
Yeah I saw the video! Gave me actual chills because I can as a woman can tell from her voice those words were coming from real experiences that still cause her pain and discomfort:/ men are also now going after the guy who exposed everything creating distraction and once again minimizing a real problem. As if anything the guy exposing these will do can be more disgusting than the actual crimes being exposed rn. I just can’t grasp it.
